PISTA SA NAYON CELEBRATION
CELEBRATING OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY
June 06, 2009
Traders Village Grand Prairie, Texas

Today we celebrated our 110th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day with a parade to honor our ancestors who poured out their blood and laid down their lives for our freedom. The Philippine Declaration of Independence occurred on June 12, 1898 in the Philippines. Filipino revolutionary head General Emilio Aguinaldo (who later became the Philippines’ first Republican President) proclaimed the sovereignty and independence of the Philippine Islands from the colonial rule of Spain after the latter was defeated at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War.

Every year, millions of Filipinos from all over the world gather around and celebrate this important day. Here in the metroplex we celebrated our Independence Day last June 6 at the Traders Village with a FREE festival full of fun and lots of food for the whole family. Our celebration was a huge success with lot of Filipinos present for this important occasion.

A typical Pista sa Nayon celebration celebration usually starts with a Parade of Banners.
