PINE NEEDLER’S QUILT GUILD
General Meeting – February 20, 2007
Call to Order:
President Mary Bruederle called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.
Chris Franz lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
There were 35 members present, plus 1 new member, Jane Peters, and 5 guests: Lynne Orloff, Wanda Patterson, Cheryl Ludolph, Sandy Copeland and Debbie Peters.
Treasurer’s Report:
Read by Dee Small (Checkbook Balance of $7,930.00)
Program:
Joyce Reitzen introduced Sandy Turner, who gave a “trunk show” and spoke about how her quilts have evolved. She suggested making our quilts more personal by using ideas from our surroundings and to “play” with our borders. Handouts were given. Sandy had books & patterns for sale. She is planning on giving a class next year on “How to Design Your Own Bouquet of Flowers”. She is also planning a new book, “Birds in the Air—Class in a Book”.

Ann Johnson – Christmas Blocks quilt & Blue/Lavender embroidered quilt; Barbara Reiff – Placemats; Ann Laffin – Bag; Joyce Reitzen – Blue/White Star quilt; Lillian Cravens – Appliqued Floral quilt; Julia Brooks – Pillowcases, Turtle quilt and Kaleidoscope quilt; Jan Sloan – Santa & Reindeer quilt and Snowman quilt; Georgette Friehauf – Pillowcases; Anita Millard – Cross-stitch and Sitka Alaska quilt (her own design); Bunny Kite – Hibiscus quilt (kit she bought at the PIQF from Rosie’s Calico Cupboard); Lynne Orloff – Cat Wall-hanging; Sandy Smith – Pillowcases; Sharron Wahman – “Santa Is Coming” Wall-hanging by Nancy Halverson.
Refreshments:
Thanks go to Irene Rhyne, Sandy Smith and Barbara Reiff for our treats. Next month’s refreshments will be provided by June Ross, Pat Helling and Catherine Santa Maria.
Committee Reports:
Block of the Month: Liz Mattingly presented next month’s blocks – “Tulip” and “Lady of the Lake”. Jan Sloan won the “Log Cabin” blocks. Lillian Cravens won the “Heart” blocks.
Quilt Stroll (June 9th): Sandy Smith introduced the Quilt Stroll Committee: Each person reported on their duties: Pat Helling sent letters to other quilt guilds & shops with a flyer and also sent an article to the Quilter’s Newsletter. Fran Fears has a sign-up sheet for White Glove volunteers. She asked guild members to see if their husbands could help with hanging quilts (starting at 7:30 am). Joyce Reitzen is doing the advertising for the Stroll. Our first ad is in the Groveland section of the “Gold Country Adventures” booklet.
The Stroll with begin at Yosemite Bank. Popcorn and lemonade will be provided. Extra Parking will be available at Tenaya School. The PNQG Banner will be hung at Mary Laveroni Park, where there will be demonstrations: Wina Helm – “Trunk Show”; Coline Simmons – Needle Punch; Alice Kraus – Applique. There will be other quilt-related activities going on throughout the day.
Quilts, wall-hangings and table-runners are needed for display to make the Stroll a success. Registration Forms need to be filled out by April 1st. If you want a booth, in order to sell your quilts, contact Harriett Zaggas. Harriett is also responsible for getting quilts back to their owners.
Community Service:
Kid’s Camp - Judy Cozad reported that the next “Workshop” will be held at the Groveland Library on March 5th. She has received a total of 394 pillowcases so far, including 74 received at the General Meeting.
New Business:
PNQG Nominating Committee: Wina Helm, Joyce Reitzen, Anita Millard, Judy Basey.
Opportunity Quilt: The next quilt will be made using batiks. Fabric will be picked on Friday.
