In ancient Greece, the general conception of the husband-wife relationship was without romantic emotional sentiment. It was a political relationship of dominance and submission, if not property (man on top). The two were joined together in an economic relationship and for the rearing of children. Instead, romantic attraction was highlighted in the relationship of older men and teenage boys.
