The idea of sexual repression brings with it a polarization of imperatives on sexual expression. Some people believe that sex is dangerous and profane in most situations, whether verbal or actual. These people argue that sexuality has to be kept under control; it needs proper continued repression. Others believe that repression is oppression, that sexuality needs to be freed from its repressive shackles in order that people can be free and fully human.
