Welcome to the School of Electronic and Computer Engineering.

The School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at The University of Nottingham has a long history of research and consultancy especially in the fields of electrical machines medical electronics, optics and electromagnetic compatibility. The programmes in England are led by academics of the highest quality and this is reflected in the high standing of the University. Since 2000 a range of Electrical and Electronics degrees have been offered at the Malaysia Campus, where the School is now fully developed, including its own research portfolio.

Owing to the wide range of topics under the general heading of "Electrical Engineering" the degree is commonly divided into various programmes which reflect emphasis in certain broad areas of specialisation.

About the School

Electrical and Electronics Engineering has its basis in physical principles such as Maxwell's equations and band theory. An Electrical Engineer will be equally familiar with the behaviour of electrons in energy bands as he will with the programming languages required to control microprocessors and microcontrollers. The graduate Engineer in this field will also be familiar with techniques used to drive and control electrical machines of all kinds.

The range of opportunities open to Engineering graduates is considerable, a situation which is unlikely to change for the foreseeable future. It is also fortunate that sectors that traditionally recruit these graduates offer some of the best starting salaries for Engineering graduates as well as some of the best Graduate Training Programmes. These opportunities are not restricted to the UK; many graduates are currently employed at locations throughout the world. Nottingham graduates are universally appreciated for their thorough knowledge, adaptability and professional approach. We take pride in our graduates and will continue to strive to provide the industry with the best possible graduates.

Some employers who have employed our graduates are: Agilent Technologies, Astra Zeneca, BP Amoco, Cadbury Schweppes, Crystal Clear Technology, Exxon Mobil, GlaxoSmithKline, Iris Technologies, Maxis, Motorola, Petronas, Schlumberger, Shell, Telekom Malaysia and Unilever , to name a few.
