Welcome to the Norse Mythology Class! The Norse mythology is a mythology that originated from Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland) before Christendom was introduced to these countries. The mythology contains several myths about the lives of men from that time, about the Norse gods and their fight against evil, and about natural phenomena. Our knowledge of the Norse mythology mainly come from the Eddas, Icelandic manuscripts, written down shortly after Scandinavia was christianised while the old beliefs were still present in the minds of the population. This source is therefore very reliable and it is also one of the few things left which tells us much about this mythology which was practiced as a religion by the Vikings before Christendom was introduced into the part of the world they inhabited. When speaking of things in relation to the Norse mythology some letters may be used that are foreign to people who are not from Scandinavia. These letters are: Æ æ, Ø ø, Å å These are Scandinavian letters and are used in some names, if you need to write them yourself you can either use the alt-codes or substitute the letters with a letter combination:
Æ æ = Ae ae
