Until the Very End

Here we are. This is the last poem. Our last poem is a free style poem. I took the liberty of following the advice of the class this time. This suggested that I do a narrative poem. So, I decided to do one. After listening to the song, “Machine Gun” by Poristhead, I came up with “Execution.” I had a little trouble writing at first. I had been sidetracked by a couple of competitions. After I got them out of my head, I produced my poem with grace. I am happy to say that it turned out great. One thing I went on with what we learned in class is imagery. I used it to describe the last meal, prisoner, the families of her victims, and everything else in the poem. My favorite are at the with, “The warden walked up behind the soldiers/Ready!/Aim!/FIRE!!!/Heavy shots rang out into the night/Red blood flew up into the air/Silence as the pure white snow fell to the ground.” (Lines 64-70) I just had fun with the last two lines. This class has been great. I actually ended up learning something from it in the end.
