Tom and Huck

Two of Mark Twain’s famous characters in the world of literature. Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are the best of friends in Twain’s little novel series. These boys have so much in common. They both love adventure and to cause trouble. But yet, there are some huge differences between them. Tom grew up in a strict yet loving home life. Huck on the other hand had an abusive alcoholic father. Tom has more of an education than Huck does. When Huck does try to reform, it is difficult for him. He is not to having rules to his life when the Widow Douglas adopts him away from his father. Chapter one illustrates how Huck is having a difficult time adjusting with this quote, “The widow she cried over me, and called me a poor lost lamb, and she called me a lot of other names, too, but she never meant no harm by it. She put me in them new clothes again, and I couldn’t do nothing but sweat and sweat, and feel all cramped up.” (Pg. 109) Tom desires to be free like Huck. But in reality, Tom has it better off than Huck does. But either way one looks at it, the two together keeps every moment in Mississippi as exciting as ever.
