Thirteen Ways of Looking at Insanity

I
Among a sea of normal people,
There is always that one person
That is lost in a frightening sea of lunacy

II
I was of thousands minds,
Hard to sort out what’s real and what’s imagined
Advised to get help, but don’t want it.

III
The mind is a tricky thing to fix.
Sometimes the cure can make the storm even worse.

IV
Demons and angels
Are one.
Demons and angels and the mental
Are one.

V
I would be considered one of “them”
Entertaining the ghosts in my head
But what is normal?
We’re all crazy in the end
Just depends on how much.

VI
Sometimes the nightmares can be too real
Almost to the point of killing its hostage.
The mental are to their illness
Chased by the monsters, round and round.
The light
Hidden in the darkness
A difficulty to reach.

VII
O people of sanity,
Why do you look down on the “loonies?”
Do you not feel sorry for your own kind
Who suffers day-in and day-out
Just to live up to the standards of “normal”?

VIII
I pity the sick
They just need help;
But it’s a hard game to play,
Sometimes, the illness is real
Or times its fake.

IX
The journey is always a long one,
Much longer in the dark
Without a guide to help.

X
Inside and outside are rather confusing
It all sits on a thin white line,
Even God can’t sort it out for them
They just muddle it up again.

XI
He rode over to the funny farm
In the padded van.
Once, he got lost in the darkness,
In that he mistook
His baby sister
For the devil.

XII
The monsters are plotting.
The mental have a new member to their ranks.

XIII
It was nightfall all day.
It was raining
And it was going to rain.
He sits staring out the window blankly
He’s gone now.
