Sympathy for the Devil

Drugs and partying seem great here. It all seems so good and attractive at first. But then, it all crashes and burns. That is the reality of drugs and partying. Duke and Dr. Gonzo are finding that out the hard way. Their little Vegas trip has been nothing but drugs, violence, sports, and wild partying. They have had their ups and downs with the whole trip. It’s always same the thing with Vegas. People go there to have a good time and go buck wild. By the end of their trip, they have run out of gas and are flat broke. Duke and Dr. Gonzo certainly have done both and stopped trusting each other. So much so that they go back home separately. For what? According to Duke, nothing for everyone. However, he says that he has learned something. He says, “Nobody had learned anything—or at least nothing new. Except maybe me… and all I learned was that the National District Attorneys’ Association is about ten years behind the grim truth and harsh kinetic realities of what they have only just recently learned to call “the Drug Culture” in this foul year of Our Lord, 1971.” (Pg. 201) Duke seems to be disillusioned after his little Las Vegas trip. It all goes with my belief that drugs and Vegas don’t mix!
