Laugh and Learn

Rarely are there any guest speakers that are entertaining. Most of them are perceived as boring. However there are some times that the lecture is a fun-filled gift. This lecture gave the students a really treat. Vernon Wall was the guest speaker tonight. He turned out to be a funny man with a powerful message. He helped the audience learn about killing operation with laughter and interactive activities.

First, Wall presented us with a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” really did fit the theme of tonight. Wall really drove his point home with lightening the mood some. His jokes and stories were right to the point and gave the audience many laughs for the night. Wall’s hands-on assignments also helped get his point through to the crowd. I got to meet and learn about another nice person tonight through the assignment. Aside from the hands-on assignments and the jokes, Wall did give the audience some useful knowledge to take away with them. One piece of knowledge that stuck out in my mind is P+P= O. That means privilege plus prejudice equals oppression. That is especially true for blacks and women.

Overall, Wall gave a good lecture. I really did love his IPod analogy of how people think of each other as they first meet. Wall needs to come back and do another lecture for Boone sometime.
