Grave Shift

The Next Morning:

Miguel awoke the next morning from a wild night of partying. He looked all around confused. He found himself on a school bus. “Okay…” he thought. “This is weird…” He found his friends passed out before him. Billy lied across the floor as if tossed down there. Brandon hung over the edge snoring. Tom sat up on in the chair snoring as well. Lisa leaned on Miguel’s shoulder sound asleep. The boy smiled at his girlfriend kindly. They all had been friends since junior high. This group would do anything for each other. Miguel remembered that happily.

Then, he began to remember a little bit about last night. He and crew spent the whole night partying and causing trouble. Miguel grinned at himself there. Great times! Too bad he couldn’t remember anything at all from last night. He was sure something great happened there. He just wished that he could remember…

Miguel quickly returned to earth when he felt Lisa’s head moving around on his shoulder. He looked down at his sweet little girlfriend. Lisa looked up at him with those sweet hazel eyes of his. Miguel smiled at her warmly.

“Hey baby,” he whispered to her softly. Lisa fluttered her tired eyes fully open.

“Hey,” she murmured back to him as she sat up again. “What happened last night?” Her boyfriend shrugged at her.

“You tell me and we’ll both know,” he replied. Lisa nodded some. Miguel smiled and kissed her on the lips. Lisa kissed him back. They were just about to make out when a low groan distracted them. The couple looked up and saw the boys waking up on the bus. Miguel looked at them somewhat disappointed. The boys all sat up and looked around.

“Oh…” Brandon moaned out. “What happened last night?” Miguel shrugged at him.

“Dunno,” he replied. “But I know we went partying last night!” His pal looked up at them.

“Really?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Miguel and Lisa replied. Brandon looked out the window again.

“Ah,” he said. “I see.”

“My head hurts!” Tom called out. But, something else caught her attention. He smelled his shirt right away. “Eww! I smell like vomit!” Billy felt around in his jacket. He slowly began to panic.

“Oh shit!” he muttered aloud. The rest of the crew looked up at him.

“What’s wrong, Billy?” Lisa asked. The boy looked up at the girl right away.

“I lost Butch’s drugs!” he yelped out loud. The rest of the crew panicked at that sentence. Butch was the local drug dealer. Everyone called him a crazy bat! Many rumors went around about him. It is said that he has killed pets and other drug dealers and buried them in his backyard. The crew thought Billy had last his mind when he went to get drugs from Butch. The boy just hoped to make a little extra cash by selling. But now, they were gone. If it’s one thing Butch hated was when people lost his money or drugs. They knew Billy had become a dead man. The kids all went pale at that one. Billy dropped his head back in worry.

“I’m finished!!!” he cried out loud. “If I don’t get those drugs back by three o’clock tomorrow, I’m going to be buried in Butch’s backyard along with his other victims!” Billy nearly broke down into tears. “I’m ruined!” he cried out loud as he buried his face into his hands. Lisa looked Billy like a concerned mother.

“Don’t worry,” she replied. “We’ll help you get them back!” The boys all looked at her like she had just lost her mind.

“But how?” Miguel asked her. “What don’t even remember what happened last night!” His girlfriend just shrugged at him.

“Well then,” she replied. “We’ll just have to remember.” They all looked at her uneasily on that one. Easier said than done. Easier said than done. But what choice did they have at the moment? Lisa shrugged at them after she spoke.

“Got anything better?” she asked. Nobody spoke after that one. Lisa stood up right away. “Right!” she called out. “Let’s go!” Then, the girl headed right off the bus. The boys watched her for a moment.

“She’s got a point,” Miguel replied. Then, he got up and followed after his girlfriend.

“True,” Brandon spoke up. He stood up and followed behind the couple. Tom went next while he still had a devil of a hangover. Billy, desperate to live to see his eighteenth birthday, got up and ran after his crew. Here began the mad thirty-hour rush to local the missing drugs.
