Free Music for Everyone?

Everyone loves free things. Free t-shirts, drinks, food, gift cards, electronics, money, one can name it. People just love free things. Who does not, really? It is like getting a gift from somebody you love. What else can possibly be for free? Why not take it to the next step and make music for free? Yes, people should be able to download music for everyone. But yet, some greedy records companies are scared of this idea and want to make the poor music fan pay for the songs that they so dearly love. They call free downloading “stealing.” That is just not right! Music fans should just be able to download music for free whenever they want. Why? They can save money, it is easy to do, and artists can promote their music for fans and hits. Downloading music for free really does benefit everyone in the end.

Music fans save money when they download music for free. Nobody can deny it, the American economy is not doing so hot lately. People just cannot afford the music that they wanted to in the past. It is all over the news. The losses of money is hitting everyone hard. The entertainment industry is reflecting on that little fact too well. Almost every TV show and music video reflects on America’s economic hard times. It is so much of bother to pay for music as well on the internet. If music is downloaded for free, the music fans can save their money for other things such as food and rent. So, why bother to charge a poor broke music fan close to a dollar just for one little song that they love so dearly? It is just not right to take their money during such hard times. By letting fans download music for free, they can just enjoy the music without a single payment at all. Of course, the music companies say that downloading music for free is “stealing.” This is not true. If you download a song, it is still going to be there for other people to do the same. (http://www.aaronsw.com/weblog/001112) So, there is no real problem there.

Another good reason to download music for free is that it is easy to do so. One can just right click the song that they want on a site, click “save target as,” save the file, and the song is just as good as theirs. That is all there is to it. No money, codes, or forms to fill in required. Just save the song and there it is. Making people pay for downloading music just complicates things. Nobody really likes doing something that is too hard for them. Buying music is no exception to this little rule. It is just easier to download the songs that they want without paying a single cent than to keep paying for songs that you want. Time and energy are saved when music is free on the interest. The only thing that the music fan would have to worry about is if it the right version of the song and if the site is still available to download it from.

Music fans are not the only people who benefit from free music downloads. New artists can benefit from free downloads as well. When fans download the artists’ music and they like it, that might lead the fan to go out and buy the artists’ albums for more of that same great quality of music. They are basically trying out the music before they buy it. (http://blogcritics.org/archives/2002/10/19/021822.php) It is like trying on a dress in a store before buying it. What sense would that make to just buy the dress without even trying it on first? It does not, does it? Neither does paying for downloading music. MySpace is the best place for fresh artists to put up songs to help out their music career. Musicians and managers are finally coming to terms with the fact that they cannot stop fans from downloading their music for free. So what can they do? They use this little “problem” to their advantage and try to sell more albums. Ninety-five percent of music is already downloaded for free. (http://www.nwanews.com/adg/Style/253529/) The “problem” of downloading music cannot be stopped, because people are still going to do it no matter what. So why not try to profit from such a “problem?” Everybody wins in the end when that happens.

People should be able to download music for free. They save money when they do. It is an easy process to do. Plus, musicians get a piece of business when fans download their music for free. Most music fans do not think that they are stealing music anyway! So, there is no real damage to anyone.
