Death and Love

Here is my final poem. I decided to do somewhat of a ballad for this one. I wrote about a teenage couple the goes into a life of crime. I wrote the whole thing from the girl’s point of view. This is the darkest that I have written so far. It is like the modern day Bonnie and Clyde. The girl started out innocent until she met a boy. He corrupts her and they drop out of school to go on a crime spree. It started out petty at first, but then it gets really violent and leads to their deaths.

I tried to avoid clichés as much as I could. I just focused on writing a clear and cut-out story rather than anything fancy for this assignment. I also made some of the details rather visual. I think I have gotten much better at showing and not telling since I first took the poetry class.

The part that amazes me the most is that the speaker is dead and telling the reader the story of her downfall. Somehow, I just made that work rather nicely. I really do enjoy how this poem turned out in the end.
