Usually races at the Monmouth Race Track involve horses, jockeys, and trainers, but not on April 9th, 2006. That day a group of girls raced time to raise as much money as possible for Alex's Lemonade Stand. As any other day, the day was not without trials. With a table collapsing, spilling lemonade, running out of napkins, worrying about the water supply, and a ten hour day ahead, the Monsignor Donovan Key Club had a challenging goal to face. Of course, because of their loyalty to Key Club and service, the MDHS Key Club was ready for the challenge. With lots of posters and smiles on their faces, the Key Clubbers collected over 300 dollars strictly on a donation basis. The public that attended the Monmouth Race Track outdoors pavilion were very generous in their donation and showed true care and concern for supporting pediatric cancer research through Alex's Lemonade Stand. Not only did Alex's Lemonade Stand benefit from the hard work of the MDHS Key Club, but the clubbers that were present were also affected by the day’s happenings. They heard stories from venders about loved ones that had been affected by cancer and their want to donate. They received first hand, the experience of kindness from others and honed their skills of conversing with people and spreading the message of support for pediatric cancer research. The Clubbers could even connect with some racing fans as they related that Afleet Alex donated a percentage of his winnings to Alex's Lemonade Stand. A successful race was completed by the Key Clubbers of Monsignor Donovan High School as they finished up their service year for Alex's Lemonade Stand. All of Key Club crossed the finish line ahead of the pack in their service and donations to researching pediatric cancer. The Monsignor Donovan and the NJ Key Club should be proud to stand in the winners circle hand in hand with Alex's Lemonade Stand, as projects such as these and many others made it such a successful year in service.
