Sumo Bots

This is a picture of my sumobot that I built with my partner Cam. In the class tounament we took 3rd overall, losing to the Punisher in Semi-Finals. We were then matched up against the Instigator. We lost, taking 3rd overall, and the Instigator ended up losing to the Punisher, finishing 2nd.

Hows It's Built

We built our bot out of a 6x8 piece of pine wood. Our first idea was to mount 2 large wheels on the rear and posistion a small wheel near the front to keep the front from scraping. After a couple of tests and watching other groups bots, we figured that the best thing to do was to have no front wheel at all. Our final design ended up being pretty simple. We stayed with the large, grippy drive tires and cut our 6x8 peice of wood down to a simple wedge shape. We then attached a 3x6 piece of sheet metal to the front to act as a plow. BAMF ended up being a very manueverable sumo bot with a lot of pushing power.

The Arena

Above is a picture of what the ring we battle in looks like. The ring is approximatly 4 feet in diameter, and made of 3/4 inch plywood. The wood was coated in a black paint to make the surface smoother and easier to push the other bots.
