:: Biography ::

Michael Andrew Newell was born in 1985 in Syracuse, New York. When he was nine years old, he and his brother moved to Tallahassee, Florida with their mother. Not long after moving, Michael developed a strong interest in music by joining the Strings program at his elementary school. Through elementary, middle, and high school, Michael was very involved with musical events involving the Band, Chorus, Stage Productions (like "Hello, Dolly," "The Boyfriend," and 42nd Street," to name a few), and also maintained a jazz combo outside of school playing at small venues in Northeast Tallahassee. While in high school he began learning clarinet, flute, bassoon, and percussion (specifically marching percussion) as well as began to experiment with composition. He was awarded the Director's Award from the Lawton Chiles High School Band Director, and the Music Department Award from the Lawton Chiles High School Music Department Head. He graduated from high school in 2004. After high school, Michael enrolled at both Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University. He was a member of the Florida State Marching Chiefs for one year as the second bass drummer.
