The body of 52-year-old
businessman Ganga Persaud was found in the trunk of his
car, at around 06:30 hrs yesterday, in Eighth Street, Diamond
Housing Scheme.
He had apparently been strangled with lengths of bicycle tubing
and duct tape.

Grove Police Station made the gruesome discovery after residents
informed them that a strange car had been parked in the area for
several hours.
Investigators said that Persaud's killers had wrapped bicycle
tubing and duct tape over his mouth and nostrils. Death appeared
to be due to suffocation.

His shoes were missing, leading investigators to surmise that he
was slain elsewhere.
The businessman was positively identified by his younger
brother, Ganesh Persaud, who collapsed after being allowed to
see his sibling's remains.
Police officials said the motive for the murder is unclear.
However, some relatives suggested that Persaud, who fathered two
children, was the victim of a robbery.
They revealed that he had conducted a business transaction on
Friday afternoon.
Detectives only recovered $40 from the victim, along with his
wrist watch, a camera, national identification card,
and other documents.
Up to late yesterday evening, Police were still questioning the
slain man's reputed wife.
A resident of Eighth Street, Diamond Housing Scheme said that he
observed Persaud's blue
car, PEE 587, parked near his home at around 01:00 hr yesterday.
At around 06:00 hrs, other residents became suspicious after
noticing that the strange car was still there. They contacted
ranks from the Golden Grove Police Station.
When the policemen arrived, they were reportedly unable to
locate the keys to the vehicle.
However, using a substitute key, they eventually managed to open
the car trunk, and were greeted by the sight of Persaud's
trussed-up remains.
The slain businessman's relatives arrived at around 10:00 hrs,
and Ganesh Persaud, his younger brother, confirmed that the
victim was his brother. He then collapsed.
A weeping Ganesh Persaud told Kaieteur News
that he last saw his brother alive at around 14:00 hrs on Friday
at an Eccles, East Bank Demerara fishing complex, when he
brought a quantity of 'wire-rope' for his sibling.
Kaieteur News was told that Persaud went home, but then went out
again on Friday night.
At around 05:00 hrs, the businessman's reputed wife contacted
her brother-in-law and his wife by telephone and informed them
that Persaud had not returned home.
One of the relatives said that shortly after, Persaud's spouse
called again and informed them that the Police had located
Persaud's car but had not found him.
They were eventually informed that his body had been found.
According to some relatives, Persaud travelled overseas
frequently.
They were unable to provide any motive other than robbery for
his murder.
His two children, who are in their twenties, reside overseas.
They have been informed about his death.
