History: Tu is a member of an extra-dimensional race of beings who were worshipped as gods and known as the Atua or Akua by the Ancient Polynesian and as the Kahunas by the modern Hawaiians of the Pacific Islands. While the exact origin of the Oceanic gods is unrevealed, as compared to other pantheons of gods such as the Olympians and the Anunnaki, it is believed the Kahunas, also known as the Atua, might have originated somewhere in the vicinity of the Fiji Islands, later extending their worship through Polynesia, Micronesia and the Australian continent. Most of modern-day worship of the Oceanic gods is felt and centered around the Hawaiian Islands believed to have been created by the goddess Pele.

Tu is one of the sons of the primeval earth-goddess, Gaea, known to the Polynesian aborigines as Papa and her mate, Rangi, the ancient sky-father, whose essence filled the biosphere of the earth's atmosphere just as Gaea had infused her life essence into the Earth itself. Rangi so loved Papa that he held her within a tight embrace and refused to let her go. As a result of this tight embrace, clouds and darkness covered the earth and all living things remained stifled between sky and earth. Realizing that nothing on earth would survive unless they could separate sky and earth, each of Tame's brothers took turns trying to separate their parents. Tu objected to his brothers trying to separate heaven and earth, instead suggesting that they kill them to establish order, but his brothers ignored him. Tu's youngest brother, Tame cleaved a great axe from divine materials and used it to break apart Rangi and Papa, rising his father into a lofty place in the heavens decorated by stars and adorning his mother with trees that reached to the sky. In doing so, Tame reportedly established day and night and the calendar and became ruler over his fellow gods.

Ignored by his brothers, Tu was credited with creating human beings, teaching them how to capture the birds of the air that belonged to Tame and sail the seas for the fish that belonged to Tangaroa. Reported as the ancestor of the Maori chieftains, Tu was a member of the main trinity of Hawaiian gods with Tame and Rongo, who had replaced their brother, Tangaroa, who had fled to live in the sea. According to the stories of the Cook Islands, Tu was granted the land of Te-parai-tea on the island of Avaiki (modern Raiatea) by his mother, Gaea, in the form of the Cook islands mother-goddess, Varima-ta-Takere.

Tu became known as the god of war among his mortal worshippers on earth and often demanded blood sacrifices to them as an act of loyalty. On earth, his temple Wahaula Heiau, built in the 13th Century near Kalapana, was considered sacred to him. In 1791, Chieftain Kamekameh was told by his priests that in order to conquer the islands of Hawaii that he had to honor Ku with another temple at Kawaikae Bay. Ceremonies and human sacrifices were held during the three years it took to create the island and Kamekameh managed to conquer Maui, Lanai and Molokai. By 1795, he took Oahu. By 1820, Kauai and Hawaii joined the empire.

For unknown reasons, the Kahunas allowed their worship to dwindle after Europeans invaded the Pacific. The Hawaiians allowed American armies to claim the Hawaiian Islands and by 1940, it was claimed for the United States. By now, Ku had been overshadowed by the young war-god, Oro, son of Tangaroa, the sea-god. Tame has since been in allegiance with the chieftains of the other gods of earth, and Pele the volcano-goddess has been friendly with the members of X-Force.

Tu's modern activities are unrevealed.

Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 310 lbs.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black

Strength Level: Tu possesses superhuman strength enabling him to lift (press) 40 tons under optimal conditions.

Known Superhuman Powers: Tu possesses the conventional physical attributes of the Kahunas or Oceanic gods. Like all Kahunas, he is exceptionally long-lived, but he is not immortal immortal like the Gods of Olympus. He tends to age at a more slowly rate than human beings and cannot die by any conventional means. He is immune to all Earthly diseases and is resistant to conventional injury. If he were somehow wounded, his godly life force would enable him to recover with superhuman speed. It would take an injury of such magnitude that it dispersed a major portion of his bodily molecules to cause him a physical death. Even then, it might be possible for a god of significant power, such as Tame, Tangaroa or Baiame or for a number of Oceanic gods of equal power working together to revive him. Tu also possesses superhuman strength and his Kahuna metabolism provides him with far greater than human endurance in all physical activities. (Kahuna flesh and bone is about three times as dense as similar human tissue, contributing to the superhuman strength and weight of the Oceanic gods.)

Ku is physically stronger, faster and more powerful than most of the Oceanic gods, with the possible exception of powerhouses like Tame, Tangaroa and Tawhiri. Her can perform physically for longer periods of time than his fellow gods, capable of subduing virtually any opponent over time with effort.

Abilities: Ku is an accomplished warrior with knives, bows and arrows and virtually any object he can turn into a weapon.

Comments: This bio describes Tu from his appearance in the Marvel Universe. So far, Tu has only been mentioned in Marvel Comics; neither he nor the Oceanic gods (with the exceptions of Pele and Kane Milohii) have been represented in the DC Universe.
