A 36-year-old
man accused of
raping a
72-year-old
grandmother was
yesterday re-manded
to prison by
Magistrate Oscar
Parvatan.
Harold Singh
of Sophia
allegedly had
carnal knowledge
of the woman
without her
consent on
August 14.
Singh in his
defence told the
magistrate that
the woman went
to the police
station
yesterday and
asked him to
settle the
matter.
He informed
the court that
he told her that
he had only
slapped her.
"Ah tell
she in front of
de officer that
all ah do was
pull she and
slap she."
The accused
told the court
that the
complainant sent
him to the shop
to buy white rum
and cigarettes.
There was an
argument and the
woman became
upset and pelted
a bottle at him.
Singh was not
required to
plead to the
indictable
charge of rape
and he has to
return to court
tomorrow where
the question of
bail will be
addressed by
Magistrate
Parvatan.
