General Strategies in RS: Vegas

This is a section devoted to improving your gameplay all around. It's focus is on the little things that matter. Enjoy.

  1. Burst fire. When your rate of fire is set to automatic, tap the fire button to create an effective burst. This achieves better accuracy and extends the length of your clip.

  2. There is an ongoing discussion about whether it's better to remain standing or to croutch when going into combat. The general consensus is to try both and see which better accommodates your playing style. If you have hairtrigger reflexes and good aiming, try croutching, as this increases accuracy and creates a smaller target for them to hit.

  3. This correlates with #2. The debate is on armor: is it better to wear more armor? Again, I believe it comes down to style. Try out both and see if YOU can tell a significant difference and which enhances your gameplay.

  4. Aim for the head. It's a 1-hit-kill, so learn to aim for it if possible.

  5. -There are several different types of guns in Vegas, and each with a different use. The SMGs (Sub-machine guns) are the most efficient in close-range combat. Their accuracy makes them the best "spray & pray" weapons. The UMP (does considerable damage with a 2-shot burst), P90 (a 51-bullet clip with a good 3-shot burst) and the MP7A1 (second-largest clip with great accuracy and range) are among the deadliest SMGs in the game.

-The AR's (Assault Rifles) are an even mix of sniper rifles and SMGs. While only sub-par in close combat, their single shot is effective at a distance, but their power lowers their accuracy when set to automatic. Among the more dangerous AR's are the FAMAS, G36C, M8 and MTar.

-Between the LMGs, shotguns & snipers, it all becomes a matter of preference. Note, though, that the LMGs are highly inaccurate and, in my opinion, are a waste of time.

-Also, overall, it's wise to give each gun a try and find one you like, then keep using it. The more you use a gun, the better you become with it. Learn your weapon.

  6. Teamwork and communication are, hands down, the most important aspects of Vegas. As i explained to my friend in Halo, in response to 'you should have known he was there', "Maybe I should've, but the fact is that I may or may not know where someone is all the time. If I don't, you can't fault me for not shooting him. So ultimately, you have to communicate with me. I don't care if he's in my face. Call him out, 'there's one in your face!' and I'll have no excuse for not killing him." This same principle applies to Vegas. As well, if a teammate calls for help, if at all possible, let him know to sit still and that you're on your way.
