One Last Waltz For Old Times' Sake

Deeply past the midnight hour,
Time ticks endlessly and loud
Not afraid of keeping me awake.
You dance lightly through my mind
Although unsought and uninvited,
One more waltz for old time’s sake.

Within the tired, dragging darkness
Staring blind at empty space
Beyond the dreary tossed and turned
Insistent stillness, cloying quiet
Emotions battle, lingering, longing for
Building back the bridge I burned.

And in the dawning dewy morning
Swirling mists evaporate
As the sun arises from the lake.
Before the day is fully blooming
I close my eyes and daydream music
One more dance for old time’s sake.

Visions in the dawn still haunt me
And pray upon my sleepless mind
I wish that I had no regret
That yesterday has come and gone.
Our love has lived and passed away
I should not miss you now and yet….

When thinking in a still soft light
Reliving moments, pearls of joy
With present sadness hard to take
I keep on visiting your memory
And see your smile and hand outstretched
One more waltz for old time’s sake.
