Peculiar Galaxies

Website Contents

In general, peculiar galaxies are galaxies having features that don't fit into the standard Hubble "tuning fork" morphology. Very often this occurs due to interactions between galaxies that have occured in the past or are ongoing in the timeframe when the light we observe left the galaxy. However, there are many galaxies that fit into the standard Hubble classification system when only the most obvious characteristics are observed, but have unusual details that may still classify them as peculiar.
