John "Mad Jack" Fuller, Squire of Brightling: a genealogy

The most enigmatic member of the Fuller family of Sussex, England was John "Mad Jack" Fuller MP, 1757-1834, Squire of Brightling. In 1575, the first Fuller arrived in Waldron, Sussex and took over the lease of Tanners Manor. The family fortune was made by acquiring land and through the Fuller Furnace at Heathfield that supplied cannons to the British Government. Sugar plantations in Jamaica were added to the land holdings. Many of the Fuller men entered politics and became Members of Parliament.
