A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 1997, in Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel in Gresham for Piet Van Leer, who died April 12 of Lyme disease at age 82.

Mr. Van Leer was born Oct. 29, 1914, in Amsterdam, Holland. He received a law degree from Leyden University before immigrating to New York just before World War II. In 1941, he married Ursula Hartog, who died in 1992. He was a naturalized U.S. citizen. After World War II, he served as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Army and interrogated German officers. He was investment manager and vice president of a Wall Street brokerage firm. He lived for 50 years in White Plains, N.Y., and moved in 1992 to Gresham. Survivors include his son, John C. of Tarrytown, N.Y.; daughters, Virginia Henrietta Dittrich of Tuebingen, Germany, Peggy Ann West of Milwaukie and the Rev. Lois Elisabeth Van Leer of Corvallis; and eight grandchildren. Inurnment will be in White Plains. The family suggests remembrances to Older Adult Services at Mt.
