Born in Czechoslovakia, he came to the United States in 1936. Before retiring in 1985, he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Clifton, where he worked for 30 years. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Athenia Veterans Post, Clifton. He was a member of Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, Clifton. Surviving are a son, John J. of Clifton; two daughters, Elaine Chengiri of Howell and Deborah Miskiv of Hackensack; and a sister, Anna Komar of Clifton. Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at Assumption of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church, with burial in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Visiting is today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a parastas at 3 p.m., at Shook Funeral Home, Clifton. Donations to North Jersey Lyme Disease Association would be appreciated.
