Kathryn Elizabeth Hutt Brown, 85, of Souderton, a retired schoolteacher, died of complications from dementia Sunday at the Dock Woods Community in Towamencin. During almost 30 years as an educator, Mrs. Brown taught first- and third-grade students in New Jersey and in the Philadelphia suburbs. A graduate of Olney High School and the University of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Brown taught for one year in Cape May Court House before joining the former Hatfield Consolidated School District in Montgomery County, where she taught for 11 years. In 1957, Mrs. Brown left Hatfield for the former Deep Run Valley School District in Bucks County. She taught there for 16 years, before retiring in the late 1970s. In 1980, Mrs. Brown and her husband, Ralph, moved to Spring Hill, Fla. The couple returned to the area in 1998. He died last year. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Keystone State Reading Association and served as an officer of the Bucks County Chapter of the International Reading Association. She was also a member of the Moss Rose Questers Club, an organization of women interested in history. She is survived by daughters Kathleen Young and Deborah, and three granddaughters. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Kirk & Nice Funeral Home, Stenton Avenue and Butler Pike, Plymouth Meeting. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting.
