Self harm is a dangerous thing in the world today that seems to go unnoticed by parents, family, and friends. Self harm has been on the rise for many years. These people are going through life with the feeling they are alone and forgotten. People who self harm have lost a piece of themselves and there is little being done to help them.
I am someone who struggles with self harm and consider myself a survivor of the illness. The goal initially was to create a community networked group to communicate the problem and create a place where people with this illness could talk and find the courage to move forward. Before I knew it the group grew to large numbers and I realize the abundance of information that come forward. This information could help others get better and move forward with their lives.  The problem that I ran into is that not everyone has Face book to access the group so I needed something more.  I needed something to reach the group out there who go online and look up information about self harm.

After some polls and questions being asked we realized that that something else needed to be done. We did not need a site to just tell us what this illness was, or try to raise money for some organization. We wanted the sole purpose of the site to proved information regarding the real life experience of people with the illness, and how they cope and survive. This seems to be the best logical method for helping people who self harm. As a teenager I had doctors telling me how to stop, telling me that I had to stop. I was so infuriated by this because this person had never gone through the things I had gone through. One question that separated me from treatment was, "How can he tell me what to do, when he has no idea of what it is like?"

I hope by creating this site that it will empower people to help others. I want the site to bring courage and strength to those who struggle with this illness and to help them find the strength to move forward and LEAVE SELF HARM BEHIND.
