PROJECT TITLE: Liberia Information Technology Organization (LITO)
BACKGROUND:
The long lasting Liberian Civil War did not just destroy lives and properties, but also the social, economic, political and educational standards of the country.
It is realized that during the fourteen year war, Information Technology become more popular than ever before in African countries (not just Liberia). This new electronic approach to making difficult tasks easier serves as a base for the rapid infrastructural, economic, social, educational and political development we now experience in many African countries around us. It has become nearly impossible for modern schools, factories and offices to function effectively without the use of computers and people who can use them.
Liberia, being a post-war country, Information Technology (IT) is indispensable if its actual development is to be achieved. To be connected to globally, IT must have a solid foundation in the Republic of Liberia. This will help to avoid the danger of global “disconnection”.
LITO has also observed that about 95% of Liberian refugees in neighboring countries are afraid they will not be able to return home freely because they do not have the education or skills to be able to support themselves on returning to their homes or have the resources to return home. Most of them lost their relatives and guardians during the fourteen years of civil war and became homeless and unable to support themselves with food, education, and medical attention they need.
However, we must not forget about using the Bible as a corner stone to promote peace and love among all Christian Brothers and Sisters who are members of LITO and the incoming generations from our homeland, Liberia.
Against this backdrop, the Liberia Information Technology Organization was formed. LITO is a non-profit and non-sectarian organization. It is a social charity and relief body determined to serve humanity.
AIMS / OBJECTIVES
The Liberia Information Technology Organization primarily exists to accomplish the following:
1. To promote Information Technology (IT) in Liberia.
2. To distribute computers to Junior and Senior high schools nation-wide
3. To create a network of IT professionals in Liberia.
4. To promote Christianity through IT among Liberians and teach them to be a God-Fearing People, Evangelists and Peace Makers.
MISSION
LITO is determined to: Provide Personal Computers (PC’s), Create Awareness and Evangelism, and Promote Computer Literacy in Liberia.
VISION
To see 100% of Liberian population: Evangelists, Missionaries, and Computer Professionals.
GOALS:
1. To produce a Skillful IT generation in Liberia.
2. To make computers accessible to everybody in Liberia.
3. To bring the world closer to Liberia through Information Technology.
4. To improve Evangelistic Work, Teaching, and Missionaries in Liberia.
SCOPE
Distribution, installation, Evangelistic missions and training of trainers in IT.
