Wingrider N'non

Common Knowledge:
A rather brusque-looking man, few dare to tangle with this egotistic
brownrider. A traditionalist, it is no secret that he abhors following the
lead of a blueriding female and her ridiculous “pet” green/queenrider and
that his current goal is to take up the role of Weyrleadership himself if
not place a proper bronzerider at the head once again. Brown Maltoneth,
though a beautiful specimen, is just as conceited as his rider, a fact
that does not help improve Pern’s negative view of their dragonriders.

Physical Description:
A rather thickset man with a fighter’s physique, N’non has the rough look
of a man not to be crossed. Though not exceptionally tall, N’non
undoubtedly has a strong presence. His curly, dirty-blonde hair is always
close-cropped, and it tends to spike up after he removes his riding
helmet. His beard and mustache are quite bushy as they merge with his
hair, carefully trimmed to get just the right “tough-guy” look. His
bland-colored brown eyes are beady and judgmental, always seeking faults
or reasons to complain.
Personality:
Judgmental and arrogant, N’non is a rather unsavory character. He has
little subtlety to speak of and makes no effort to hide the fact that he
is disgusted with the way the Weyr leadership has fallen to the weak
riders of lesser dragons. Of course, that only goes along with his
chauvinistic views on women. With the loss of all those he loved—excepting
Maltoneth—in recent runs, N’non has somewhat of a depressed cast to him,
but such is rarely evident these days, what with his constant plotting to
“right” the Weyr.
N’non is undoubtedly a tough-guy. Having little better to do, he keeps to
a strict exercise-policy to maintain muscles that he is rarely hesitant to
use. Though he appears to be all brawn, such is not entirely the case…even
if he isn’t overtly intelligent. He’s a stubborn pig who refuses to accept
change, but also believes that Thread will one day fall again…though
perhaps not anytime in the near future.
History:
Born weyrbrat in Southern, Narinon was raised amongst many other
youngsters and placed directly under the care of the work Desliga, a woman
who was always quick to discipline him for the slightest misdemeanor. So
it was that Narinon found himself going out of his way to make trouble and
not get caught. Amongst the children he played with, Narinon was the
eldest and most liable to take charge. Many of his friends believed that
he would one day Impress a bronze, and so Narinon’s head grew even bigger.
For the most part, Narinon was not troubled by the plague. Of course, it
did take both his parents and his elder half-brother T’vur, but Narinon
had never been particularly close to any of them anyways. Shortly before
he turned eighteen, Narinon lost both his remaining half-brother, M’non,
and Desliga. Though he had been a candidate for turns already, ironic
fortune would have it that the young man then Impressed his beloved
Maltoneth. Determined not to let his losses ruin the newly forged
relationship, N’non pored his love into the brown dragon, their
relationship becoming a tad deeper in comparison with his fellow weyrlings,
practically convincing Maltoneth that he was the glorious bronze N’non
always felt he deserved.
They graduated without accolades, embarking upon their mature lives with
few hindrances. After all, the plague was over and the pair were wise
enough to remain in the sparsely populated Weyr, away from the aversion of
the holdsfolk. In fact, with Maltoneth’s aid, N’non even caught himself a
weyrmate, the submissive yet convivial Kabri. N’non was twenty when he
became a father, but like his parents before him, N’non had no interest in
raising his son and so fostered Cabrinon off to the lower caverns. All in
all, life was good. Dragon and rider excelled in the interval games, what
with the meager numbers
He was twenty-four when the earthshakes abruptly collapsed Southern,
crushing his young son and beloved weyrmate. N’non followed the others to
Last Hope with a heavy heart, made only worse when the elderly Cortath was
caught by a self-righteous female bluerider. Though never a particularly
social man, N’non’s skimpy amiability deteriorated even more with his
depression, and he made it his sole goal to put a proper bronzerider back
in charge. In fact, he wouldn’t be opposed to taking the rank himself, as
Maltoneth was certainly as gifted as any bronze. Major changes passed by
to his great irritation as a green was named queen and a young female
brownrider was promoted to weyrlingmaster.
Now his patience is almost at its end. But to his immense surprise, Truth
laid not just a clutch, but an actual queen egg! His spirits have uplifted
slightly with that knowledge, and he looks forward to molding the new
goldrider, making sure that she is aware and supportive of the traditional
ways that seem to be dying all around them.
DRAGONRIDER INFORMATION
Dragonrider Rank:
Wingrider
Honorific:
N’non
Dragon Name:
Maltoneth
Hatch Location:
Last Hope Weyr
Age:
10
Color:
Brown
Physical Description:
In addition to being a rather large brown, Maltoneth’s hide is the rich,
reddish brown of carnelian. Though his neck is a little on the long side
(a frequent teasing point between dragon and rider) there is no doubt that
Maltoneth is a beautiful specimen of a dragon. He bears no scars along his
perfectly smooth hide, and he holds within him an almost imperial
elegance.
Personality:
What with the minute number of bronzes left on Pern, it often seems that
Maltoneth believes himself to be one of such traditionally superior
dragons. Despite being somewhat “wherry-necked”, Maltoneth is quite proud
of his otherwise glorious appearance. He despises following a blue
and—like his rider—is determined to oust Wrath and take charge of the Weyr,
or at the least, place a proper bronze at the lead. He has a high opinion
of himself and his rider and would never let any harm come to either of
them.
