Teacher Information
This project was designed as an interesting way to get students involved in the learning process when studying art, especially specific artistic movements throughout history. They will delve in to the world of art by acting as detectives who have to solve the mystery of the real artist. They will have to use teamwork and research skills to come up with a reasonable solution based upon the evidence.
Learners
This lesson can be used in any level art class, depending on the students. It combines elements of art as well as helping to further develop students' research skills, which is beneficial in all classroom environments. It causes the students to think intelligently about what it is they have to evaluate and make a decision based upon evidence, without the pressure of arriving at one correct answer. Students should be able to effectively use research tools before beginning this project.
Standards
- Apply knowledge of design elements and principles to analyze, compare, or contrast the compostition of various works of art.Develop and justify personal interpretations of works of art based on information from inside and outside the work.
- Use advanced art/design vocabulary for responding to the aesthetic qualities of various works.
Students will meet these standards by applying the following: teamwork, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, observation and categorization, comparison.
