Thursday March 2
not quite as cold. But stormed all day. Snow. My cold no worse. Leon drawing gravel I guess for Aldves. Done nothing for me. Gertie been here most all day. We tore carpet rags & sewed & colored them for Minnie. Rugs I sent her, rags to Kirkbride's yesterday. Mike Blake & wife here wanting rooms. May let them have some. Gertie here in the evening & Hermie too a while. Leon went to Show, I went to bed about 10, the rags done. Miss Stevens paid her rent 1.5 & Alva paid me five dollars for one months' rent. Grace to go to Potsdam to night.
Friday March 3
colder, water froze again last night. My cold I think a little better. I did not do much. Leon working the teams. Sam Morris driving one. Gertie came down with horse & cutter & we took the rags & went up to Kirkbrides with them to put into the rugs. I put 79 dollars in the bank & had to have a ten dollar check Grace gave a year ago nearly, charged to my account. Leon went home about 9:30 I guess. Pooler paid one 3 dollars for rent from February 25 to March 10. Heard William Green at Hermon dead. Grace with Florence at P. over there to high school teachers' conference.
Saturday March 4
Paid 4 dollars. Very cold but sunny. To cold to work. Earl Bencroft came here to see about building for Wise. Leon drawing sand with both teams for Aldves I think. I wrote a letter to the girls to Potsdam. Grace supposed to be there. I sent Florence a 3 dollar check & one dollar bill this morning. Gertie & Hermie up to night. Gertie & I went to the last show of the five I had a ticket for. Leon did not go. My cold still bad. Had a hard wheezing spell when I came home. Got a letter from Minnie & one from G. Said she & Florence at Minnie's. Came over on the 3-12 train Friday.
Sunday March 5
not quite as cold but still cold wind. Looks nice to look out the. Ice fell from the trees. I got up & done the chores & laid down & had a nap. Leon went to the farm & came back & staid here a while. Hermie & Gertie came down & staid a while. Then they went home. I went with them & we got supper & done up the work. Then came back & they have gone for a walk. They came back here & Leon came & they all staid a while then went home. I wrote a card to Grace. Getting colder but the sleighing is good. Everybody improving it.
Monday March 6
very cold. 19 below zero I heard. Early but moderated quite a bit to night. Snowing & blowing. Got a bill of my doors to day. Put 9 dollars in the bank. Leon drawing sand & took Cards tools to the car. Had a letter from Pauline to night with her baby's picture in it. Gertie & Hermie & Leon here to night. Heard Lutz had failed & xxxx. This bank for 15 hundred dollars. Mrs. Hall paid me 2 dollars on rent of rooms.
Tuesday March 7
warmer. Rainy part of the day but cleared of p.m. I made out an order for Electrical goods. Leon doing any thing but working on the store. A lovely day to work but will not do anything. Gertie up to night. Had a card from Florence. I sent one to Grace & Minnie yesterday morning. Charlie's boys came here last night & staid in his room & paid 50 cts for it last night. Woodards to move tomorrow. Mrs. Guiles paid me 2 dollars rent. Leon got mad & said he would not work. Sent the team to Russell to move Irwin Morris. Leon went to the show. About all he cares for. Gertie up a while. We both down to Miss Stevens a while.
Wednesday March 8
colder little but stormed so they had to stop work. Crit & Leon & Guiles worked a part of the forenoon on the roof but in the p.m. Scott & Leon went to Gouverneur. Snowed & the wind blew & snow piled fierce. I did not amt to any thing. Gertie went to Herman to take Mabel Cousins out. Minnie sent up a box of carpet rags for her rug. Leon got home chilled through. Gertie too tired & chilled. Hermie & Jay & Gertie up. Woodwards moved out of rooms to day. Lee's People here from Russell & hired the little rooms over my bedroom going to move this week.
Thursday March 9
Not very cold but stormy & roads full. The trains late last night. Mail two hours late. Leon had a letter from Blett. Wanted to come back. Wanted Leon to send money for them to come. Gertie here at night. Been teaching for Vivian to day. Got check of Arbas for March rent & put it in the bank. Leon brought over the windows. Six dollars freight on them. Nothing doing on the building. Had a letter from Minnie & card from Grace. She coming home to morrow night.
Friday March 10
A regular blizzard. I sent Grace a card telling her I would not be in Gov. to day. I did not do much but write & make out orders. Grace came on the night train. Got a letter from Watertown about Wise not getting store.
Saturday March 11
Very cold to day & quite a wind. Grace not well. Having trouble with her stomach. Went to see Adams & got medicine. Gertie here in the p.m. a while. The woman & child came from Russell up into the rooms next to Browns. Traded stoves with them & took the stove out of Pooler's room for them. They moved the things out & put theirs in. Alva & the Jones woman gadding the roads & hall all the time.
Sunday March 12
Cold & stormed some. Grace went back to the Junction on the morn. train. Felt a little better. Mrs J paid me one dollar for her brother & he went on the train home. I went to Gertie's to dinner & then they all came down here & Leon here too. Hermie bought ice cream in eve. Leon been to the farm & took hay he got yesterday at the Shawville place.
Monday March 13
A little warmer. Thawed the least little bit. Leon worked on the roof a little while & drew over the lumber from the station he bought of Starbuck's. I about crazy about the building. I could not do much. Went to the depot to see about freight & to the bank. Earl came up to see about the building. Mrs. Kirkbride up in the morning to see about rugs. John Plunket in town. Mr. Guiles gave me 2 dollars rent from 4 - 11 March. Trouble brewing in the block. Alva & Mabel performing.
Tuesday March 14
Very cold to cold to work on the building. Leon & Walter Scott worked a little while drawing up the roof boards. But so much ice could not work. Leon went to the farm. I sent an order to Charles Wm. Stores for Electrical goods & sent $5 check for deposit.
Wednesday March 15
Very very cold. One of the worst days of the winter & I staid in most all day. Guiles went up to see the Woodward rooms. Wants them. Mrs. Kelsey here a little while. Told her Alfred got to move. Alva just tearing. Mrs. Hall paid me two dollars to night for rent. I got a letter from Grace. She not feeling well. Shaky & weak she said. Leon not doing any thing much I guess. Brought up some night wood & turned the water on & fed the hens once. John Plunket here this evening. Hermie, Gertie & Leon Gertie been to the picture show. No train up to day after the morning train. Only the snow plow.
Thursday March 16
cold but warm sun where the wind doesn't strike. I went to Earl's to get a notice made out for Kelsey's. Wrote a letter to Grace & Florence both. Sent Grace one dollar & Florence two. Don't know what Leon is doing. Brought up two or three rolls of paper to warm for roofing. No mail or train till middle p.m. Then night train came as usual. Mr. Plunket up & sold me some lumber. Hemlock 18 per thousand hardwood 10 per thousand to be paid at the end of six months. Guiles is moved over into the other rooms over Stephens' grocery.
Friday March 17
very cold. One of the worst days of the winter. Piercing cold wind. 30 degrees below zero, some said. I got up & went to Gov. Finished getting the money of the loan office & P. paid for the marble & P. paid Orvice. Look at the checks for further information. Had quite a time to get settled. Gertie & John to train to meet me. & Leon had some supper nearly ready. I brought baked goods. Leon drew over the lumber bought of Plunket. He to send the amt. I bought three coats to sell. Gave ____. I saw about iron posts to support front. Gertie & Hermie going to the dance for Oddfellows.
Saturday March 18
still very cold. I wrote a letter to both Grace & Florence. Sent Florence a check for 3 dollars. Got a letter from each of them to night. Grace feeling better but Florence having pains in her side. I phoned to Bush to make & send up iron posts to put under front. I did not get much done. Several here. I got the B. bill of lading for the doors & windows. One half the window broke. Leon drew them over. Gertie & Hermie & Leon here in evening. Leon went to P. picture show. Butler goods at the depot. Did not know till after the bank closed. Aldves up to look over the place. I want stairs to the third floor. Expect to put in front Monday.
Sunday March 19
Warmer but cloudy most of the day. Leon around occasionally. He up to McFerran's now. Lovely sleighing & quite a lot of wading in the snow & not too cold. My wood nearly all gone. I here alone nearly all day. Gertie came down just about bed time a little while. Hermie not here at all. Gertie said she had had company nearly all day. Leon & Leah there part of the p.m. Hermie off hunting. Leon up in evening.
Monday March 20
Very cold. Too cold to do much on the building. Florence's birth day. Snow very deep & good sleighing. Mr. Milton Thompson died at 7 o'clock this morning. At Re. Thompson's. Frank Hall paid me 2.00 on rent. Met him on street. Had a letter from Florence. She sick in bed with pain in side & across her ____. Sperance paid me $4.50 for March 4th, 11th, & 18th to March 25th. Joneses paid me $5.00 this morning to. Mr. Clark paid $15 check for March rent.
Tuesday March 21
Nice warm day to work on the building. Leon working on the car all the four noon. I phoned to Florence this morning & she thought herself better. I wrote to Grace this morning & sent Florence letter to her. Had a letter from F. again to night. She still in bed with pains across her __. Not being cared for properly. Pooler paid one three dollar for rent till March 24. Ernest Peron worked all day & Guiles worked six hours I think. Worked on the roof. Aldves putting in the front. He got the bill of Ladin for the G. glass & Butler brothers order.
Wednesday March 22
I wrote Florence & Grace each this morning. Sending Florence's letter to Grace telling her to Phone her & go after her if necessary. But it not necessary. Florence came on the 3-12 train. Grace to the train to see her there about twenty minutes. Dreadful cold wind. Mr. Milton Thompson buried to day. Taken to Pitcairn.

Dreadfull cold wind & I tending to Florence. Had no time for anything else. Doctoring her.
Friday March 24
Bright but very cold wind. To cold to work on building. Parron worked there a little while & worked up stairs fixing the cupboard door that Stone put up. Putting on hinges & turns. Florence having quite a bad day. I taking care of Florence & doing a little work. Harrison here till 11 o'clock. Florence feeling better toward night.
Saturday March 25
A beautifull day. Warm & bright. Sun shiny not much doing on building. Leon & Parron putting on roof xxx in p.m. Parron shoveled snow out of third floor in forenoon. Florence a little better I think. She & I went up to Taylor's. He said she had an attack of appendicitis is what ails her. Parron had worked 34 hours he said. Owed him 4.25. 25 cts out for gloves. Gave him $1.50 cash. Harrison here till after midnight. E.H. Backus came with tax on Oswegatchie property. The tax 4.28. Returned school tax 6.10 property tax. The highway tax $1.70. Total 12.17. Fees .65.
Sunday March 26
Another beautifull day warm & sunny. Florence not feeling too well. She went to ride with Gertie a while. Then Harrison came & she went to ride with him. I here alone a good deal. H- & Gertie here a while. Both afternoon & evening.
Monday March 27
A nice warm day. Florence went back to Potsdam on morning train. Mrs. Hall brought me in 2 dollars on rent. Gave Florence five dollar check this morning. Parron working. Leon also finished putting on the roofing & we cleaned out the third floor & some of the others. Mr. Wise & Masson here in a hurry for the store. Told him I would get it ready as soon as I could. Thawing fast. The ice & snow all loosened in the third floor. Good sap day I guess.
Tuesday March 28
A nice warm day & pleasant. Leon & Guiles & Parron working on the windows & putting them in & other things about the building. I doing same as usual, watching the rest. Mrs. Lees cleaned down the front steps or the hall rather. Leon & Guiles built a platform out in front of the new building. Lee went to mines to work. Thawing fast. Must be good sap weather. People getting ready to sugar. I have rented some bucket & trees for four cts or two cts each.
Wednesday March 29
Nice pleasant & warm. I not doing much, only seeing to the work. I had a suit with Edd Merit to come off to day but he not here. Bancroft adjourned it for four weeks. Guiles worked on the building. Got the stuff over from depot. We got of Gov. lumber Co. Freight $12.75. Leon working all around. Aldves said the front was done. All he would do but did not do what he agreed to. Lees moved down from third floor to back rooms. Gertie has not been down any this week. The snow & sleighing going fast. Roads terrible.
Thursday March 30
Nice warm day. Bennet put the glass in fronts & I hunted glass & got Henry Grant to cut it for the little windows in the fronts. Guiles & Parron worked at partition & stairs went.
Friday March 31
Quite cold. Leon, Guiles, & Bennet & Parron working on store partition & ceiling it over head.
