Sunday June 2
A beautiful day only a little to windy I got up nearly seven & see to the chicks & had breakfast & done up the chores soon Florence & Harrison came over after Grace had been over to see how Earl was found him better they staid a little while then Grace & I went back with them we got dinner & later came home & Harrison & Florence went up to Lumleys & Got the car & they & Johns folks took Grace back to her school Leon not down to day or have not seen him Hermies & Roscoe Todd gone on trip. Hermie & Gertie down at night after I went to bed.
Monday June 3
A nice I up early & Baily came & Bert here working Leon down & sent the check & Papers for the numbers & licence to run the car or rather made out the papers & left them for me to send Baily brought fifteen Ancona eggs & I set them under the yellow hen that just hatched a litter
Tuesday June 4
Cloudy & cool a fire in the store not too bad. I sent a letter to Clara & sent the shipping bill for the syrup which he sent the fourth of May. Leon came with the milk & staid & worked on the automobile a while cannot in the P.M. scooted for the farm or some other place afraid might him to do some thing here won’t get the car fixed no do any thing here.
Wednesday June 5
the 8th hen to hatch A nice day I worked on the roof part of the time Baily finished the back & worked on the side put in the door frame into the Clark store over Mrs. Stevens. Earl just one red blotch his face & head. I over to see him a number of times & help tend him. A letter came from the K.S. Company saying they had sent the Master Vibrator Leon down with the milk & helped an hour or two. Bert here working. Leon He trying to get in crops with no one to cook or help him but old Billy Leah dressing up & laying around her folks no good to him.
Thursday June 6
A nice warm day with occasionally threatening clouds & sprinkles Baily gone to lay chimney for Clealand & Bert here putting up brick & cleaning up old mortar. Billy came with the milk & Leon to the upper place planting beans. Earl feeling a little better but still as red as a beet. I over this evening & Gertie there too he feeling a little better & I put sixty one 30/100 dollars in the bank rent money. Arba Kerr trying to get out of paying his rent. Raining quite hard to night Leon not down to day. The vibrator not come to day nor the car numbers.
Friday June 7
Rather a cold day cloudy & a high wind heavy rain last night & a sharp peal of thunder last night awoke most everybody if it was thunder some think not. I thought sure it had struck the block. Earl seems to be doing well the measles working down he very red but not very sick. Leon down to get some repairing done. Bert worked & got up brick & lowered the old mortar & pieces of brick worked goo gave him a dollar but he hung around till near dark for bread.
Saturday June 8
Pleasant but quite cool with quite a stiff breeze no one working but Bert Leon down this morning with the milk I sent six chickens to the farm with him. Bert put up brick & fixed the seats. I been to Florences two or three times Earl seems to be doing well takes lot of tending measles going off some working down. I washed a little & tended the chickens & see to Berts work. Think we have brick enough up on the roof. I settled with Mrs. Hall & Bailey. Gave Bert 75 cts Master Vibrator came to night.
Sunday June 9
Set the white hen over Earl better measles going off. A cold cloudy & dismal A.M. I did up the work & see to the chicks & Leon here a few minutes I had dinner then took a nap Leon came over again & woke me up he going to the farm I went over to Florences & soon Gertie came for me to go for a ride. Florence got in & went to Kirkbrides & got her to work then we came back & she stopped at home & we kept on went to Hermon then Dekalb Governeur & back to Edwards on the state road got into the mud down this side of Horace Webbs & took 2 men to help him out they down here after they got back.
Monday June 10
Cold & damp but clear Leon not down Bailey did not come Bert here we cleaned the back porch & hoisted some brick & fixed up the fence & cleaned the wood shed. I over to Florences a few minutes last night time we had a garden all made & not plowed yet rented the front rooms to Van to take them Saturday at ten dollars per month I down to Ermies a few minutes her baby little better just getting over the measles they all tore up to move to Newton Falls. Paid her one dollar on stove I bought of her Leon still staying to upper place.
Tuesday June 11
cool but pleasant cloudy part of the time. I not feeling very well worked out got to rest I kinder see to Bert he not working very hard. Baily laying brick on this side toward the river. A letter with the check for Insurance on farms & one to the Syracuse glass co. Leon over working on the car most all day I guess. Did not see Gertie at all Florence had company to supper Lumleys & Mary & Howard Stitts. Leon got the car fixed & numbers have come Leah got them from the office & took them home & did not tell of it.
Wednesday June 12
A cold damp disagreeable day rained some so B last two hours Bert went in cellar & worked at the potatoes shoveling up the rotten ones & getting out old brick to hoist up I got a dollar of Leon he down & Van paid me two 42/100 $ for rent & water rent. Had a phone from Carrie that Johnie was dead. I expected to see him again. I over to Florences at night Earl walked quite a little bit took 4 5 & six steps at a time little tiny ones his first. Gertie over there too. Leon Aldrich brought his goods & put them in the Leser store.
Thursday June 13
A cold cloudy day & rained a little this morning early Bert did not get here till nine oclock worked well after here. Leon & Billie came later & Leon helped on roof a little while & Billie helped Bert set up my new wagon I bought last fall. I over to Florences to dinner & Leon too she came over & invited us to eat vegetable soup Leon running around with the car last night Bailey finished two chimneys & part of third one. I gave Bert a dollar bill at night I got my registration papers made out to day told Leon I wanted him to go to Gouv. Saturday sure.
Friday June 14
Cold & cloudy with a little rain at night I worked all day in house & on building. Bert here & Baily finished this end & commenced on other side going to build another chimney. Grace come home this P.M. Harold Cross fetched her & three other girls for a ride they had supper at Florences then went back by Governeur home. I over there a few minutes. I had Bert take the wheel barrow & get the stove I bought of them Guilses & paid her 95 cts that I still owed on it. Leon here a while to night been to the farm drawing manure.
Saturday June 15
A nice pleasant day we got up early & worked at the brick & mortar Bert waiting on Baily her building the chimney on the further side next to Brown & laid some wall about ten Leon Leah & Gertie & John & I went to Gouv. to the Auction about the first time the car run this year. When we got there he left me & took the rest & went & go their dinner & I had to paddle around afoot.
Sunday June 16
A pleasant day not too cold Leon went to the farm & done the chores with the car then he took Ermie Guiles & the children to Newton Falls with the car & took his dinner at the mines Hotel came back & He & I & Leah went to the upper farm. Jimmie Mc went to the falls with him. We went strawberrying up there & got about 71/2 qts berries Florence Harrison & Baby drove up to farm & waited for us was started back when we got there. Came back & stopped to the Bancroft place to milk In the A.M. we finished moving the things out of the front rooms & Osheas moved their things in.
Monday June 17
Pleasant but not very warm Bert came early but Baily did not come so he worked here till about ten then Leon & Bert went up to the farm Billy took the team & Old Mrs. Wier rode up to the upper farm with us Bert dug the brick out of the old wood house & took down the old chimney & loaded the wagon with brick & wood & Bert drove the load to the village for me. We went in the car & Leon stopped & helped milk at the Bancroft place. Mrs. Wiers never rode in a car before. I got home about dark tired & got my supper & went to bed.
Tuesday June 18
Not warm one needed wraps riding Leon over & looked around Bert came early & worked here till near noon then Leon came with the car & Bert & I & Leon went to the upper place & Bert worked all the P.M. at the brick & got a good load of brick & wood Leon & Billie worked at the farm work. Bert drove the load down & the rest came in the car they stopped & milked then Bert & Billy brought it alond & I set my old hen & chickens up by them making 29 chick sent up I nearly tired out
Wednesday June 19
Cold I had to keep fire nearly all day I did not do much nearly tired out helped Bert a little about the brick hooked the rope on the pails for him to hoist up & he swept & cleaned the old mortar & Brick up Leon not doing much I guess. He & Leah up this evening a little while he kept the car all day so I could not get my lime or cement he doesn’t try to help much rather to hinder. Every body afraid of a frost. I over to Florences a little while to see her & the boy. Bennies paid me four $ & she went home to Harrisville.
Thursday June 20
A little warmer but had a hard frost last night Baily came this morning & Bert came quite early but nothing ready tried to get the stuff two or three days but Leon kept the car to run around with & would not go for anything necessary. He went to day & got the lime to Jimmie Clelands & Cement to Woodcocks then went to the farm I expect. Old Baily cut a door into the new part to open into a hall then he got mad over the mortar & quit & went home. Bert worked till night & I gave him 1$.
Fridays June 21
Cold & cloudy with some rain. Leon to the farm part of the day. Bert here to work cleaning the other side he planted potatoes behind the hen house & hoisted brick & let down the old mortar in pails. I over to Florences at night & staid with Earl for her to go to the school entertainment the graduating exercises & they went to the dance after it. I came home at two oclock & went to bed. Rolly Todd left $2.50 with Harrison for me on the rent of the bucketts. Junky paid his barn rent for one month more. Gave Bert a dollar. Leon up to farm getting out manure for the buck wheat
Saturday June 22
Cold cloudy & rainy all the P.M. & evening I not doing much only the chores & chick sent all to the farm but two litters this week & had a hen come off with ten up to the farm. Bert started to come but Leon took him back Leon around here part of the day. Went to farm to work this P.M. I over to Florences to dinner & again this evening. Gertie over there too to night. I got a good warm fire to night & not uncomfortable. I staying in my two little rooms. The children got notice of the appraisal of Elizas property by the county treasurer June 27th Webbs & Crandals gone to
Sunday June 23
A wet cold & dismal rained all night & nearly all day to day I had my breakfast & tended the chickens then laid down for a nap but Hermie came down & staid a little while Leah came up & John came & Later Leon came over & he staid a while he just gone when Gertie came & said they going to Minnies & said I could go I got ready & went as far as Harrisons & stopped there & took care of the boy & let Florence go I ate dinner & done up the work & John Lumley came & took the boy & I came home. They came about ten & told of a bad car wreck at Eddy one man killed & three sent to Hospital.
Monday June 24
A nice bright day cold this morning but warmer through the day Leon here this morn & again to night took a load of manure away this morning Bert finished cleaning the hen house & put Kerosine on the roosts had eleven ancona chicks hatch to day Bert cleaned & spaded ground & planted beans Leon & Leah up to night a little while got 15 eggs from Webb & set the gray hen Leon got eggs from Mrs. Webb for me & I set this little gray hen, My ancona eggs hatched to day I over to Florences to night Webbs got back to night Gertie school out last Friday Grace a few days graduating business
Tuesday June 25
A nice pleasant day pretty warm in the middle of the day. Bert came about eight with the team drew one load of ashes & stuff to the farm then came again at three & drew one load to the junk pile & took one load of manure to the farm when he went home about ½ days work. I not feeling well part of the day. I down to Mrs. Halls & over to Florences a few minutes over again late Herbie Hall there after the movies trying to sell his auto to Harrison Leon not down to night took the cows back to upper place to day & staying there to night.
Wednesday June 26
A very nice day but very hot in sun Bert came about 8 oclock with the team & drew one load over to the dump & then took a load of manure to the farm & did not come back till near four oclock Leon came with the milk & took me to Jim Osheas & bought 21/2 doz black Manorca eggs & set 15 of them in the wood shed under the mother to the oldest chicks. Aldrich & Joe moved out of the Leser building oweing me two dollars. Leon not down to night I over to Florences & just got back a little while when they came after me to come & stay with Earl while Hermies& they went for auto ride got back at 12.
Thursday June 27
Rented room to Oshea for sleeping. A warm nice day but not to hot like yestersay I did nothing much only see to things Bert came down in the morning with the team he picked up some then Leon came & helped him hoist the stoves up in the top of the building I went to the farm with Leon & Leah Bert took a load of manure to the place then went on to the upper place & they took down the old chimney on the wood house or summer kitchen & brought the brick & Leon cultivated & hoed Bert helped me scrub off the kitchen floor came back at night & over to Florences a few minutes. Got notice of Nell Knox marriage.
Friday June 28
Warm with quite a wind & cloudy I got up early Harrison Crandles went off this morning left rooms nasty & owing me. Saw Joe Aldrich said he would surely pay men monday night next. Leon & Leah sailing around nearly all P.M. in the car. I over to Hs quite a while Earl walking nearly all around. Bert working for Leon & they putting in buck wheat. I hear to day they registering for war saving stamps. Had a card from Grace she could not come home till next Tuesday going to Syracuse to day. Have not seen Gertie to day nothing doing on building to day.
Saturday June 29
warm but cloudy & showery hard rain in P.M. Leon & I started for Russell to find a mason but rained so hard & mud so bad we gave it up & went down to Ralph Grants after a milk wagon he bought of C. Webb & drew it home behind the car got stuck in Grants barn yard & had to take a horse to draw him out got home then went up to Frank Cooks & bought two tables & a cupboard & he went & got them Frank came down & I bought a rocking chair & another table gave him nine dollars for the whole went to Florences at mail time got a card from Grace.
Sunday June 30
a lovely day pretty warm but a nice breeze riding. Before I got my work done Gertie came & said they going for a trip & I can go so we started about eleven & went to Gouv. & from there to N. Dam Eldale Brasie Corners Popes Mills Edwardsville there crossed Black Lake on the Toll Gate bridge (Paid 25 cts) then went towards Ogdensburd a few miles then came back & went from there along the lake to Hammond then to Morristown & Ogdensburd drove all around the city then came home around by Canton & Dekalb Junction (stopped there to see Grace but she not back from Syracuse) came home got here about 9-30 all right.
