Sunday July 2
cloudy & raining commenced before seven but rained showers all day. We all went to the farm & Gertie Hermie & John drove they went berrying & got a lot of berries for the time gone come home about six Leon here at night & Harrison here till near midnight Grace feeling very weak & tired. Bletts folks up to upper place to pick strawberries got quite a lot.
Monday July 3
Rainy & cloudy all day nothing much doing. Florence & Grace cleaning some. Pay day at the mines Leon doing nothing but laying around. Not many coming to the dance I should think at the hotel Mrs. Lee on another mad spree she doing nothing to amt to anything she collected the board bill & took it all
Tuesday July 4
cloudy with a little rain a dance at Maybees hotel a big crowd did not get gone till near xxx. The band went to Russell to play Mrs. Lees got the dinner then got ready & went o the lake then staid here when she got back We got supper, Mrs. Gladle worked — — —Hrs cleaning up stairs.
Wednesday July 5
Pleasant & sun shining The girls & Mrs. Gladle did the work she worked — — — Grace Gertie& Leon & I went to the farm in the P.M. they girls went berrying got back after six Florence staid here to see about supper & work Lees moved out went down over Hermies in the back end & took a lot of my things or at least they are gone.
Thursday July 6
Pleasant & warm bright sun but cool breeze Mr. Gladle dug up the ground to put the water in the new building had Shefner down to see about it. Ottie tapped the pipe Morrow worked ½ day. The man came with Graces Piano don't know who & the men & Leon helped put in the Piano then Leon took the car about four oclock & went to the farm & the girls got ready & went to Travers to a Miscellaneous shower for Gretchen Todd Then went to the Movies at night Gertie up a while & Hermie. H.. up while she went to the movies.
Friday July 7
warm & bright sun but a quite a brisk wind we up to the farm about eleven oclock ton hay it Blett mowing on the knoll towards Whitfords then they got up hay & fork it in the shed & horse barns. Mrs. Blett here strawberrying the boy working. Grace went and picked about a quart for supper Leon & I went to Lynn Jones & got the Blacksmith tools he had & brought them to the village. Gertie & Hermie up Will Bowman here & two or three other fellows boarding.
Saturday July 8
Pleasant & hot sun but a cool breeze blowing the fore noon Mr. Gladle finished the water pipe & Sheftner here & bossed the job & got it all ready to have the water turned on then in the after noon Leon Gracer & Maud Spearance & Leah went to Governeur I went & see Lawton Brother & the Starbuck Company & went to the Loan office & paid dues & went to Saidels but did get any thing. Came back about seven then Mrs. Pete Guiles came up & Gertie Hermie Harrison & Will Bowman here & played the Piano a couple of boarders had a fight out in the streets
Sunday July 9
Pleasant & warm but a cool breeze blowing. Grace here alone all day most Florence went home with Harrison to dinner & we had only three men to dinner one left the one that fought last night. Leon went to Benson Mines with a load of ball players we got dinner & supper & did up the work rather lonesome ten thousand all around. Only three here to supper Leon not home yet at dark. Later Leon came about — — — Oclock some one brought him home. The car broken down & left to Oswegatchie. Leon went to dinner & left the car by the Hotel & Mert Bell & William Morrow took it & started for Star lake & broke it down & they had to leave it.
Monday July 10
Pleasant Mrs. Gladle helped the girls wash I went to Earl's about several things water, Lees acct & Woodards & about the boys taking the Auto & smashing it. Gladle worked hung door. I got at Myron & put locks on the door & tried to wire the hall & put on the Plaster board. Cost me $2.25 what he done gave him a check for that & Saturday settled with him & paid him up Leon went to the farm with Hermies horse & buggy.
Tuesday July 11
Very warm we worked here all day Leon drove Hermies horse to the farm again & John went with him. Scruton brought the car down to McCollums & Leon got it Will Morrow paid him five on it at night we went to ride Hermie drove it.
Wednesday July 12
A nice sun shiny day & very warm Leon & Grace went to the farm to haying but I could not go had a law suit with Mrs. Lees to tend to she had it adjourned till the 20 th then we had dinner Mr. Connelly paid me three dollars leaving two more if I make him pay it. Grace & Leon went to the farm in the fore noon Blett took two loads of hay to the other place one at noon & one at night come home early Leon does not do anything hard only sees to the work
Thursday July 13
Very warm but rained most all day or had frequent showers all day caught lots of water. Heard Arthur Boulett had Lottie tried to prove something against her & Swanton but did not find out anything. We were going to Hermon but did not go Bancroft did not want to go said he would fix it all right. Leon had one mess of milk sent back so they made ice cream & used what they could & gave some away some to the others in the block at night they went to the movies came back & eat ice cream.
Friday July 14
Pleasant & cooler nice We got up early & got meals for the boarders Leon came over to breakfast Grace cooked some made pies out of the ice cream left. We worked at house work & fixed my white skirt - cut it off & fixed it ready to wear & in the P.M. Grace & I & Mrs. Hall & Gertie went to the farm with Leon did not get there until after two then the girls went to the Pond & went in I staid here & slept & Leon raked then came home to supper.
Saturday July 15
Pleasant & very warm could hardly live without working but there was quite a breeze I hired a boy & we mopped the chamber & hall in the new part Leon worked on the car part of the fore noon & went to the farm in the P.M. Grace & Kathleen come with him we staid & done the work Shampines paid me $4.50 & went away to his brothers Harrison up & Florence went with him to take Higman home I went to bed at 11-30 H. still here. Grace cooked & baked all the forenoon.
Sunday July 16
Very very warm we were going to the farm but Leon wanted the car to take Kirkbrides to Rens. so we staid home & he got ten for going. We went up to Gerties a little while then we went to ride in the Auto. Hermie Gertie Leon Grace & I John & Mrs. Beach Florence & Grace & Gertie went to the Lake with Harrison after dinner then Florence went home with Harrison to supper. I went to bed quite early before they got through riding. This P.M. Maud Spearance fainted away twice very bad off I opened the door & let her into Johnsons room.
Monday July 17
Pleasant but cloudy rained all night last night most & looks showery to day we got up & had breakfast about ten oclock Grace & I started for the farm with Leon. Blett here working the boy off berrying. Grace not feeling well feels weak & lifeless this P.M. the men cutting the grass on the Harper lot the grass heavy. Leon took the car & Grace & I went to Moors & from there to Johnsons & got my show cases Fanny Bevins boy went with us. Every body most haying I am afraid Grace coming down with chicken pox been having it in block
Tuesday July 18
Still very warm but a good breeze & cloudy part of the time we had breakfast the Grace & I came to the place with Leon Blett up there alone when we got there the boy gone to Hermon to work they raked & got up hay
Friday July 21
Dreadfull warm I expected to go to Governeur but Leon wanted to go to get up hay so Grace & Gertie went with him to the B.P. but only got up one load of hay when it came a hard shower & stopped them. They came home. I got ten dollars on Wise & Mazza rent. Roberts ever since they paid the eighteenth am getting tired of it will not stand it much longer & told him so. Spearances & Guilses & Halls came back to night & the rest up for a while.
Saturday July 22
Very warm Leon came over about nine not feeling too well I did not do much business I got an order from Robberts on the Northern Ore B.O. for rent. I waited around expecting to go to Governeur but it rained & we did not go. Leon kept away laying around & did not do much. Erma Guiles coming down with chicken pox came from Stammerville last night. Lesley Burns a drunk came up to Robberts & they quarreled last night got up & drove them down & fastened the door & then the boys sung the rest of the night but quiet to day.
Sunday July 23
Very hot & sultry Hermie & Gertie Leon Grace & I & John went to Canton to Minnies got there about two oclock Florence went with Lumleys to the ponds & had dinner in Laidlaws bush she came back to get supper for the men. At about four Leon John & Ray & Hermie went to Pierpont or Clares Mill up to Gleasons to see what they could see or catch we staid here & set up until they & we got tired out then laid down & they came between two & three but so tired they could not ride home killed some game but lost it. We phoned to Nett she alone the boys still in Syracuse.
Monday July 24
Still hot & getting dry we got up & had breakfast & started for home about nine oclock. Come to Canton stopped I went to the County Treasury Office & then stopped to Netts & McKinn & to DeKalb & Hermon & see Parker went to the house it empty came home & found everything all right as far as can see got here about one oclock Did not do much after getting back pretty tired. Leon went & helped draw hay in the p.m. Gertie & Hermie up a while & H bought ice cream.
Tuesday July 25
Another hot day the girls washing I working around at one thing & another rode to the farm (B.P.) & staid a while Leon got up a jag of hay then came home Florence & Grace here doing the work. Ermie Guiles better but covered with chicken pox. Leon & the rest up a while Gertie practicing on the Piano.
Wednesday July 26
Another dry hot day very warm breeze I tried to do some business got Clarks rent & paid his grocery bill. Florence & I went to the upper farm with Leon got back about one had dinner tried to settle with Wise but could not. My note with Stevens due had it charged to my acct. Florence gone to call on the girls Leon off with the car again. Grace & Gertie went to Talcville on the morning train to visit Sullivan.
Thursday July 27
A nice warm day but quite a breeze Leon & I & Florence & Philis Fraver went to Governeur Florence asked her to go for a ride I went to the Governeur Lumber Co. & settled with them & to the Loan Office gave them three checks Paid Loans Went to Saidels but did not buy any thing We got home about six oclock stopped to Jays in the yard a few minutes he gave us a little box of honey he taking up a little Gertie was home that day we just saw her Our Gertie had company & could not go with us Grace staid & done the work here.
Friday July 28
Very warm & dry Myrtle Guiles came down to go berrying so Leon took the car & took her Florence Grace & I & we went to the bushes up beyond Jones got about xx qts. red berries.
Saturday July 29
still hot but cool last night & this morning we did not do much but the house work at night got a letter from Carrie wanting us to go to the lake tomorrow Gertie nor Hermie not up Leon here part of the time Harrison here no show the — — — Did not come. Leons Pictures came not extra good.
Sunday July 30
Joe Manderan commenced to board for breakfast. Cooler & nice but no rain we done up the work then got ready to go to the lake took our lunch & had dinner over there. Florence went on the lake a while in the roe boat We came home about five & got supper for the men. Florence came back with Harrison & then went down home with them & staid until ten oclock then he came here till time he was home two hours. Leon went back to the lake with a load or two. This is the time of the great Infantile Paralysis Plague hundrids dieing daily in the cities.
