One of the dogs that I have is a golden retriever and her name is Alice. We got her from this lady who did not want her anymore and so we didn't rename her.She doesn't do tricks and she likes to fight with my Boston Terrier. She is pretty old so she just lays around outside the house or inside. Golden Retrievers are medium-large sized dogs and can reach between 65lbs & 85 lbs at full growth; they require at least 30 minutes of exercise daily and lots of love and attention. They should be fed quality dog food, preferably an all-natural diet, to keep them in good condition and lessen possible allergies. Their coat is long and sheds year-round. While this can worsen allergies in humans, the impact of their shedding can be reduced with frequent brushing and grooming. They usually have very gentle mouths, but they do enjoy chewing and should be provided with appropriate, approved items for chewing. Golden Retrievers live to satisfy their family. HGRR strongly recommends obedience training to ensure maximum bonding and mutual satisfaction of the Golden and its owners. Above all, Golden Retrievers have a very loving disposition and thrive on personal attention. GOLDEN RETRIEVERS PLACED BY HGRR ARE NOT SUITED FOR AN OUTSIDE-ONLY LIFE; they require and deserve their own place in your home. Heartland DOES NOT ENDORSE underground/hidden fences. A fenced yard for safety and exercise purposes is preferred but not essential. Goldens adopted from Heartland must be exercised on leash and not allowed to run free. Group: Sporting Average Weight:60-75 pounds Height: 21-24 inches Temperament: Very friendly; not particularly aggressive. Great with kids and other pets. Training: Early & constant socialization; regular obedience. Coat: Dense & water repellent, lying flat to the body, flat or wavy, w/some fringes, but not silky; good undercoat. Grooming: Regular (weekly) Color: the official colors of the Golden Retriever coat are varying shade of gold. Exercise Req'd: Highly active; needs regular exercise, must toss tennis ball or woobies often. Lifestyle: Happy to do anything, as long as it is with family. A very eager to please animal. Acceptable Registries: AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC Extremely intelligent dog. Quick to learn & adapt to most situations. Golden's are a medium sized dog requiring daily exercise because of their energy levels. They make a wonderful family pet, very loyal, great with children (having a high pain tolerance). Needs companionship of humans; deprived of this they can become hyperactive.
