Not a Whole Lott
He’s the greatest of all-time, the best safety, the best DB
He’s the reason no one threw over the middle against this D
He was the definition of a one man wrecking fiend
That’s why he’s a Hall of Famer and member of the All-Decade team
His numerous huge sticks and hits, if you witnessed it
You’d realize that the guy was the definition of “ubiquitous”
He was all over the field, he took over the game
He made everyone around him look slower and plain
Look, over the middle was a non-entity, that’s the deal
Just like how Deion Sanders used to take away half the field
He’s an alcoholic Stepdad who loses his fuse
He’s the fierce leader who refuses to lose
Against Lott you’ve already lost, forget even keeping score
He was so great they moved him to safety to help them even more
He’s the one you want when your team’s at war
He made those around him better with his seasoned lore
BLOUGH!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I watched the DVDs
And honestly, he’s not even the standout player on THIS D
Ronnie Lott’s the FREE safety, not the strong
He’s not in the box for long, he plays over the top and deep
It’s a shot at Keena Turner, Jeff Fuller, and Chet Brooks
When you heap such praise on this guy and they don’t even get looks
Not to mention the Michael Carters, Kevin Fagans, and Jeff Stovers
Who are treated as nothing more than last decade’s leftovers
He began in 81, had a standout rookie season indeed
Forcing numerous turnovers at corner, the last time he was leading the team
In the 82 strike season, chinks in the armor started to show
As Willie Miller of the Rams burned him deep, he looked startled and slow
In 83 he made a lot of plays, but you need to see the shadows
A CORNER should never be the one who leads his team in tackles
STILL he’s 3 for 3 for Hawaii, but next season he’s sliding
Plagued by ankle injuries, and gimpy knees, it seems like he’s dying
The defense actually improved against Houston when he left the game
Moon had been picking on him, now Fuller at CORNER provided more steady play
STILL he made the Pro Bowl, but there wasn’t much more time afforded
In 85 he was moved to safety because he could no longer survive at corner
Less than delighted was an out of position Dwight Hicks
He got burned at corner, Lott finally saw a Pro Bowl that he out-right missed
And that was the last time he led THIS team in tackles…yes
Hicks was traded in the off-season to play safety in Indianapolis
The 49ers drafted Tim McKyer and Don Griffin and had them in
McKyer was taken in the 3rd round, Griffin was drafted 6th
So yeah, Lott grabbed some picks, 10 to be exact
But why is no one mentioning the fact
That the interceptions that he had
Came during a season in which the 49ers led in defensive pass attempts?
And the pressure wasn’t bad, over 50 sacks from them
More pass attempts, more interception opportunities
In 1987 you can’t help but notice that Lott was usually
Overshadowed by Jeff Fuller, and he was a step slower
And in 1988 the injuries crept in as the end gets closer
Injuring yourself with poor technique is not in the guidelines
The 49ers won the big ones at the end with Lott on the sidelines
Then came 89, it was another year for him snake-bitten
At least this time the defense was actually better when they played the game WITH him
The pattern repeats itself in once more in 1990
Shit, better stop now, Ronnie’s standing there with a knife right behind me
“Take that, Dalton Hilliard and Mark Bavaro!!!”
WOAAHHHHH, Ronnie Lott with an INCREDIBLE STAB!!!
If somebody were to stab my kid with a knife like that, I’d SHOOT HIM
“I dare you to go up to Ronnie Lott and say he’s not a big hitter”
“I rank him up there with 49er greats like Tony Parrish and Derek Smith.”
