"Excellence through the Martial Arts"

Our Community:
Sunset Park, Brooklyn is a melting pot of people each of whom come from different cultures such as Hispanics, Asians, Middle Eastern people and African Americans. Unfortunately it is also a community plagued with gang activity, violence, over crowded schools, as well as unemployment. Many of the youth in this community come from immigrant families who are fairly new to the U.S. There are few alternatives and no community center, which are in dire need. With cuts to sports activities, and physical health programs there are few places where our children, teenagers and their parents can turn to.
Who we are:
The Japan Martial Arts Association of New York (JMAANY) is an independent karate-do group dedicated to exposing the art of traditional karate-do through hard training and proper education of the martial arts. The JMAANY was founded with the premise to give the Sunset Park community inspiration and drive to achieve their goals. This association was born out of sacrifice and a pure passion for the traditional martial arts. With the help of the Lawyers Alliance of New York we have established ourselves as a Non-For-Profit association according to New York State regulations to better serve our community.
Our Mission:
To establish a professional karate-do association that sets a high standard of excellence and embraces educational themes. That will provide an outlet and alternative to at-risk children, trouble teens and adults through proper education and training in the martial arts. It is our aim to build positive leadership within our community and network to provide a badly needed community center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York.
Giving Everyone an Opportunity for Excellence:
It is one of JMAANY’s goals that karate-do be available to all people regardless of sex, ethnicity or status. There should be no reason why anyone should be turned away who desires to learn the martial arts to better themselves as individuals. Many martial arts schools are overly priced and out of reach to many families who live in a low income status. The JMAANY wants to give every opportunity for excellence and motivation so that all students could achieve their dreams especially those who could not other wise due so because of high cost. That’s what makes the JMAANY different.
Why We Need Your Help:
Due to the lower-income background of most of our youth enrollment, the greater majority of funding must, inevitably, come from outside our kids and their families. All of our expenses to keep this program going for the last three years has been out of pocket.
We have a great need to continue expanding our fundraising base. Your financial assistance is greatly needed. We ask you to help us continue improving our ability to help our kids grow to positive and productive adulthood, by supporting our program to the greatest extent possible with your donation.
Our desire is to use what we know to make a difference in the lives of others if you would like to know more on how you can help please e-mail us at the address below or write to us at:
