I shall begin with a return to my metaphor of the windmill. I still feel that just as the windmill is used to generate electricity, I am contributing to the production of strong independent thinkers who will be ready to meet the challenges of today’s society. Like a windmill has the job of harnessing the energy of the wind to provide power, I work carefully to ensure my students have the knowledge and skills they need to do well in our world. While the windmill relies on the a variety of winds to do its’ job well, I rely on parents, my colleagues, the principal, my school board, and the government. But of course the winds do change, just as the climate of the education system has changed, and for the good of my students, I continue to adapt to the changes. With change comes new promises, and just as the design of windmills must undergo improvements, for the sake of my students I have continued to engage in new learning. Although I may not be as elegant as the old windmills, or as powerful as the new wind turbines, my classroom and instructional practices continue to reflect my passion, commitment and desire to provide a program that will successfully meet the needs of all students. Strong and effective leadership and the pleasure I derive when I see students actively engaged in inquiry and discovery will continue to bring me personal satisfaction as a teacher.
