Rows 1-3: BAS. (3 rows of BAS)
Row 4: YO and draw through first loop, *2 ch, YO and draw through the loop on hook and the next 3 loops, rep from * to end.
Row 5: 1 ch, *insert hook into each of next 2 ch and draw up a lp, insert hook into the vertical loops of the 3 sts which were worked tog and draw up a loop, rep from * to end, working into the last 2 ch, then into the vertical loop of the end st.
Row 6: Work the sts off in pairs the usual way.

Base:
Rows 1 & 2: Using A, BAS.
Pattern:
Row 1: Using A, skip first st, BAS into next and each st to end including edge st.
Row 2: BAS.
Rows 3-8: Rep Row 1 and 2 three times.
Row 9: Using B, skip first st, * BAS into each of next 7 sts, skip 3 sts, leaving last loop of each on hook and always inserting hook as for BAS work 7 dc into next st (called FAN) skip 3 sts; rep from * ending BAS into edge st.

Note:
- 5 ADC fan = Skip next 2 sts, work 5 LOOSE ADC around stern of stem of next st 3 rows below, skip next 2 sts.
- Afghan Stitch Double Crochet (ADC) =
1) Ch 2 for the 1st stitch at beginning of the row. YO and insert hook into the next st as if working a BAS.
2) YO and draw loop through.
3) YO over and draw through two loops on hook.
4) Leave remaining loop on hook.
Row 1: BAS.
Row 2: BAS.
Rows 3 and 4: Rep row 2 twice.
Row 5: With 1 loop on hook, work 5 ADC fan, *1 BAS in next 5 sts, work 5 ADC fan; rep from * to last st, 1 BAS into last st.
Rows 6 and 7: Rep row 2 twice.
Row 8: With 1 loop on hook, *1 BAS into each of next 5 sts, work 5 ADC fan; rep from * to last 6 sts, 1 BAS into each of last 6 sts.
