This is a wonderful site and a personal favorite. For those individuals in the position of writing policies and procedures for the Health Care Facility, it offers sound advice and sets up a procedure to follow in designing the structure and addressing the goal of the policy. This is an excellent site for regulatory information. The site offers many links to rules and regulations on a wide variety of subjects, including HIPAA, Medicare, Medicade, Here you can find details and explanations of the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding system for Medicare and Medicade and the CMS online manual system which contains Regulatory information and explanations on PDF files for easy downloading. The information is written in plain language so that it is easy to understand and follow. This is one of my favorite sites. I found this site on yahoo.

National Committee on Health and Vital Statistics
I found this to be an interesting (and unedited) transcript of a committee meeting where they discussed the complaints received on the HIPAA regulations and were considering updates to improve and streamline the process. During this meeting they also held discussions on the National Provider Identifier number.

HcPro
This site also claims to offer accreditation of health care facilities. The site lists some well known Health Care organizations, such as Kaiser Permanente and Legacy that have taken advantage of HcPro training. I reviewed the websites on some of these health care organizations. None of them claimed to have received HcPro accreditation. In addition, HcPro suggests that they have an affiliation with the AAAHC. However, no evidence of this was found. When following links to hot topics on their site map, you were led to a report that you can purchase on the topic for $30.00. Although the site has current information and good contact resources, I found this site to be untrustworthy. I found this site on yahoo

This full text article was written by Behar-Horenstein LS; Guin P; Gamble K; Hurlock G; Leclear E; Philipose M; Shellnut D; Ward M; Weldon J. The purpose of this study was to investigate patients’ beliefs about the effectiveness of a patient education program. The authors interviewed general medicine and cardiac patients and their families at a large teaching hospital. The findings revealed that cardiac patients had greater access to information about their illnesses than general medicine patients. The authors describe recommendations for developing a written patient education curriculum, including information that addresses pain management options and discharge protocols.
