The Seven Soldiers of Victory
Garage mechanic Pat Dugan was watching a patriotic film when Nazi agents started a riot in the theater. Dugan and a boy named Sylvester Pemberton fought the Nazis.

Later, Pemberton was having his father's car repaired at Dugan's garage when both heard a person wish the American flag could come to life to battle enemies such as the Nazi agents. Pemberton and Dugan were each inspired to become costumed "mystery-men" to fight America's enemies. Pemberton called himself the Star-Spangled Kid, and Dugan became Stripesy.

At first Stripesy and the Kid worked separately in battling Nazi agents and regarded each other as a rival, but after the two heroes were captured by Nazi agents, they joined forces to break free and defeat the Nazis. They knew each other's true identities, and Dugan became the chauffeur for Sylvester's wealthy father. Stripesy, who was older then the Kid, taught his partner boxing, wrestling, and acrobatics. For transportation they used an advanced vehicle Dugan invented called the Star-Rocket Racer. They Star-Spangled Kid and Stripesy joined the wartime All-Star Squadron and the Seven Soldiers of Victory.

Forces released in the Seven Soldier's battle with the Nebula-man hurled Stripesy through time and space back to the Egypt of ancient history, where he was forced into slave labor. He was rescued by the Batman, Hourman, and Starman, who brought him back to the 20th Century at a point many years after he had left it. Hence, Stripesy is little older today than he was in the 1940s.

Dugan retired as Stripesy, married, and had a son, Mike. However, Pemberton's cousin Arthur stole Dugan's patents for his inventions, plunging him into financial difficulties. Dugan's wife left him, although he retained custody of Mike, and Dugan operated a garage outside Las Vegas. Needing money, Dugan built an armored, high-speed vehicle for gangster "Boss" Weed, but when Weed kidnapped Mike, Dugan (as Stripesy) and the Star-Spangled Kid captured Weed and rescued Mike.

Dugan has again retired as Stripesy, but the Star-Spangled Kid has paid him for the stolen patents, and Dugan has redesigned the Star-Rocket Racer for use by the Kid's new team, Infinity, Inc.
