Background: High school student Wally West was the nephew of newspaper reporter Iris West, the girlfriend of police scientist Barry Allen, who was secretly the super-hero known as the Flash. Wally was the president of the Flash Fan Club in his hometown of Blue Valley. Iris arranged for Wally to meet the Flash. Incredibly, while the Flash was telling Wally how he got his powers through an unusual accident, the very same accident befell Wally. While Wally stood in front of a cabinet full of chemicals, a random lighting bolt struck both him and the cabinet. Apparently, the same chemicals that had affected Barry Allen during his accident splashed over Wally as well, for Wally too gained the power to move at super-speed. The Flash made Wally his protege, and Wally adopted the secret costumed identity of Kid Flash. Kid Flash had many adventures, both with the Flash and on his own. Kid Flash was also a founding member of the original Teen Titans. Although Kid Flash did not want to join the New Teen Titans, he did so nonetheless, and remained with the group for an extended period. However, Kid Flash eventually left the Titans for various personal reasons to devote his full time to his studies at college. One reason was that, as a result of changes in his metabolism as he was growing older, Kid Flash seemed to be losing his super-speed powers. |
