The Flash's Rogues Gallery
While on a school field trip to a local meat-packing plant, Mick Rory was accidentally locked in one of the plant's huge deep freezer rooms. The freezing child desperately tried to work the door's lock mechanism, but his frost-bitten fingers were too numb to do so. In a last-ditch effort, young Rory blew on his hands, using the heat of his breath to warm them, until he was finally able to unlatch the door and escape.

Traumatized by the experience, Mick Rory became obsessed with heat and warmth. Throughout his teens he continuously experimented with heat in its various forms.

When Rory left home, his first regular job was as a fire-eater in a traveling carnival. He remained with the carnival for several years before turning to a life of crime. Tailoring a special suit designed to let him make the most of his fiery specialty, Mick Rory became the costumed criminal known as Heat Wave.

Upon arriving in Central City, Heat Wave began a crime spree that brought him into conflict with the chilling criminal called Captain Cold and the super-heroic Scarlet Speedster known as the Flash. Over the years Heat Wave had an ongoing rivalry with Captain Cold while the two of them sought to destroy their crimson-clad nemesis. During one of their final battles, Heat Wave managed to unmask the Flash and learn his true identity.

While serving his final term in prison, Mick Rory decided to turn over a new leaf. Determined to go straight, Rory took a job in a glassworks factory. He later came into conflict with the Flash once more when his own parole officer assumed the powers and identity of the new Heat Wave. By helping the Flash capture the new Heat Wave, Rory convinced the Scarlet Speedster of his sincerity, and the two subsequently became friends. Rory even aided the Flash against the master criminal called Goldface when the latter attempted to gain control of Central City's criminal element.

Eventually, Mick Rory decided to leave Central City to begin a new life elsewhere, yet his current whereabouts are unknown.
