The Secret Society of Super-Villains
Originally a master criminal on an other-dimensional world inhabited by wood nymphs, dryads, Nereids, air sprites, and flower spirits, the being known as Woodrue was banished for his wicked deeds to Earth, where it was hoped he would perish. Unfortunately, Woodrue survived and used his other-worldly knowledge to take control of Earth's plant life. Finally, Woodrue attempted to conquer America with the aid of his plant army, a scheme that was foiled through the efforts of the six-inch super-hero called the Atom.

After repeated defeats at the Atom's hands over the next several years, Woodrue perfected a chemical elixir that transformed him from fauna to flora when swallowed, making the plant-master now truly a Floronic Man.

After suffering a defeat in his new form at the hands of Green Lantern, Woodrue briefly joined the Secret Society of Super-Villains, but soon found himself back in prison, until he was freed at the behest of the Sunderland Corporation so he could examine the corpse of the seemingly dead Swamp Thing...

As a result of his efforts with the Swamp Thing, the Floronic Man became one with the entire plant kingdom and led a plant revolt that threatened to destroy all of mankind. Ultimately, the Swamp Thing broke Woodrue's mental link to the plant world, leaving the Floronic Man hopelessly insane. He is currently incarcerated at the Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
