Hartman is located just west of Clarksville in Johnson County Arkansas. Founded in 1881, this little comunity began to grow which in turn caused it to need a fire department. The Fire Department, years later, was founded in 1980. With this community growing along with others, people gave numbers to the community Fire Departments in which Hartman was given #4. People also began saying the term RFD for Rule Fire Department in which the Hartman Fire Department became Johnson County RFD #4 Hartman.
