Some General Information about Ancient Coins

Ancient coins are an interesting field of both study and collecting. Watch this space regularly for information about ancient greek and ancient roman coins.
My favourite emperor is Trajan. As you can see, I have included a picture of one of my favourite types of coin. You can see the emperor on the obverse (left), and more interestingly, on the right, you can see a magnificant colum -- Trajan's column-- which still exists in Rome today.
Why is Trajan my favourite emperor? Well, probably because he was one of the most (if not the most) successful emperors that Rome ever had, yet at the same time he was a decent human being and is not known for the cruel acts that have become synonymous with the name of the emperor Caligula.
