I often feel that gardeners ignore the visual and aesthetic significance of vegetables in their gardens. People often go for a pretty flower or shrub, and it never occurs to them that a bed of cabbages can be amazingly beautiful.

I wanted to share these pictures, which I found on public photo collections (they are not copyright free, but using them here is within the terms of use given by their authors). I absolutely adore the visuals of having such beautiful colors and shapes in the garden. Nothing compares to the colors and textures of some types of lettuce… as pretty as any flower and even more so... Tomatoes, these orbs of bright red shining through the bushes… Colorful peppers, in every shade between yellow, red and green, and so many shapes and sizes. And I've only just begun when it comes to pumpkins and squash, where you truly have an amazing selection of colors, sizes, shapes and textures!

Yes, there are the obvious benefits of gardening for vegetables. You get delicious nutritious food, free of toxics and hormones and whatever it is they use nowadays to make your food have better color and shape (but not taste!). Granted, many people opt for a nice bed of tomatoes or lettuce simply because they want a healthier pesticide free salad. Indeed, a noble cause. Only when you grow your own produce, can you guarantee that only natural pest control methods are used. Indeed, organic pest control is a true challenge. Getting beautiful vegetables without using any toxic pesticides is achievable but requires some effort and a lot of knowhow.

So, how can you get a beautiful vegetable garden? How to know which plants to choose, both for their value as foods, the ease of caring for them and the distinct visual appeal? I found a great e-book that really helped me there. It covered everything I needed, from the very basics.

It's called the The Secrets of Vegetable Gardening and it teaches absolutely everything you need to know to get your own flourishing and beautiful garden. Within minutes you can learn how to choose the right place for your vegetable beds, how to get the best soil and drain it, how to create a successful planting table, which tool to buy and how to use them, how to perform effective and non-toxic pest control and generally how to get the best most beautiful vegetable garden while saving on money.
