Gammon Gods

From ancient times, antiquities tell us of powerful beings who held dominion over nature, death, time and even fate.  In the great north, Odin led his warrior gods, the Aesir of Asgard, against hopelessness.  Mawu the supreme deity of the Fon people of Benin in Western Africa controlled death..  Ling-bao tian-zong in China regulated time and yin-yang.  Mighty Zeus of the Achaeans kept his Olympian brood in check with his powerful thunderbolt.  On occasion, a mere mortal might arise to perform some Herculean task that would win him renown from his fellow man and respect from his deities.  The gods would honor the bravest heroes by elevating them to an equal level of immortality.

In every realm, there is a division between classes.  Enlisted men and officers.  Commoners and kings.  The profane and the divine.  Mere men and gods.

Now is your opportunity to alter Fate's decrees, take on Eurystheusian challenges and prove to time eternal that you deserve to sit in the pantheon of the Gammon Gods.

Individual Events

Puck's A Midsummer Night's Classic - Upon his expulsion from Avalon, the mischievous Puck traveled far and wide, discovering many sources of amusement including the wonderfully comic world of American baseball.  His meddling provided years of grief to generations of baseball fans.  The miracle Mets run.  The BoSox, BlackSox and Cubs curses. The Bartman ball.  This tournament is modeled after various baseball motifs, although a knowledge of the sport isn't necessary to play.  It's three strikes and you're out of the regular season.  Those lucky enough to survive the regular season, face double elimination playoffs and a five game world series for summertime supremacy.

Romulus and Remus - Alliances are formed as random competitors are forced to rely on each other's strengths and weaknesses to make it to the finals, only to turn on each other in fratricidal combat.  Once there, survive on your own or rely on your partner, as long as you are the last two standing, the prize is within your reach.

Pair and Team Events

Polydeuces' Wild - Castor and Pollux are forever linked in heavens as the constellation Gemini for their fraternal love and the bonds of brotherhood that they shared.  Partner up and play this pairs tournament with a twist.  Players are allowed to communicate throughout the tournament on stone and bone decisions at table chat or whatever format they prefer.

4 Horsemen - In the end, the four shall descend upon us to signify the end.  Teams of 4 compete in a straight team-single-elimination tournament format.  Anyone on one team may play anyone on the other team.  The losing individual is eliminated for that round.  When all 4 members of a team are eliminated, that team is eliminated and the opposing team advances with all of their members returning.

Future Events

Divine Comedy (individual/team) - Only the willful, those devout in spirit and strong in body, shall survive this ordeal.  3-step tournament.  Players will have to rely on other lost souls to survive the Inferno in randomly assigned teams of 5.  The top teams and a preset # of single qualifiers will advance to the next round.  In the second phase, players must avoid the melancholy and malaise of purgatorio, getting paired up to advance to Paradisio and remain in the single-elimination final that is Paradiso.

Maze of the Minotaur (individual) - Enter the maze...avoid the beast.  Multiple separate doorways into the labyrinth, but only one way out.  Multiple mini-tournaments with re-entry allowed and multiple wins allowed.  32 mini-tourney winners advance to the maze and must attempt to follow the path out and slay the beasts that lie within.

Orpheus' Sorrow (backwardsgammon) (individual) - Emulate Orpheus' rescue attempt of Eurydice by walking backwards through this tournament.  Single-elimination 3-point backwardsgammon tournament.  Play to lose, first person to lose 3 points is eliminated.  Doubling cube is in effect.

Pandora's Chouette (Chouette-style) (individual) - Enter the box and unleash the evils of the world.  Chouette-style tournament with one person randomly selected to start as "the box" and face the other players in the competition.  Match played like normal backgammon with modified chouette rules.

Path of the Ba Xian (team) - Conscious attainment of spiritual perfection is the only true way to stave off eternity.  8 mortals shall travel the path of great light to achieve immortality and thus save themselves and their friends.  4-person team tournament.  The Mortals phase of the tournament sees team members playing by themselves in single-elimination brackets.  The 8 bracket winners advance, resurrecting the souls of their defeated comrades for the Immortal stage, where teams will play 4-on-4 to achieve enlightenment and oneness.

Ragnarok (clan-based individual) - In the end, the battle for supremacy to rule eternally shall be waged by the gods.  Tournament for clans to battle each other en masse.  War waged between multiple battalions of deities.
