Saison 2008: Ouverture de la page web de la ligue: Montreal Floorball League website

21 octobre 2008: Victoire! Young Guns IBK: 4 vs Finecast: 1

Quebec Floorball Association News(english only):
The Young Guns hosted Finecast and the early line had the Gunners blowing the ‘Casters out of the water. However, it was NOT the case at the start. A few shots and even fewer scoring chances by both teams produced a mostly lackluster first period. To their credit, Finecast did enough on defense to frustrate the usually high-flying Young Guns. It was not until the final minute of the period did the match have its first goal. ‘Bastien Meslage scored on the power-play after Than Thiruchelvam (two points for having an interesting name; two minutes for making me check the spelling several times) was called for repeated offences. The break did wonders for YG, as the Punks came out firing in the second frame. Back-to-back goals finally solved Dan Sabourin’s stingy backstopping and put YG in the driver’s seat. Another penalty against Finecast in the 12th minute looked like the backbreaker for the ‘Casters when Than’s brother Jey (don’t make me write their last name again) was sent off for high-sticking. But Pasi Nurminen’s quick free-hit for a goal caught the Gunners off-guard, effectively stopping YG’s momentum. The rest of the match then reverted back to the play of the first period and not much more in terms of offence. A final last-second goal made it 4-1 for the Young Guns. It wasn’t a blowout but it did pad their second place in the standings. ‘Cenzo Meslage led YG with three points (1G,2A) while Sabourin had a decent game for Finecast, saving 19 of 23 shots.

16 octobre 2008: Victoire! Young Guns IBK: 9 vs Les Orphelins Sans-Frontieres: 3

Quebec Floorball Association News(english only):
With only one spare on the bench, it appeared that the Orphans had another game cut out for them. But it was a shocking opening goal by Stephanie Beauparlant that had the Gunners reeling in the first minute. Eventually though, YG’s speed and deep bench overwhelmed OSF. It was 4-1 for the Young Guns going into the second period and the Punks did not let up. After Sam Archambault made it a five-goal lead, it wasn’t until near the last six minutes of the game did OSF answer back with a goal from Finnish import Henri Tuomilento. Then, silly penalties from the Orphans gave back the momentum to the Gunners and Ollie Garneau-Proulx sealed the deal on the power play. With a 9-3 victory, the Young Guns find themselves in second-place in the Intermediate division. YG’s Sebastien Meslage led the Punks’ onslaught with four goals while Guillaume Gosselin, Mathieu Paolo and Alexandre Dupont each chipped in three points. Beauparlant was a force for the Orphans scoring a triple play (1G,1A,2 PIM) and Bertrand Nepveu was again busy in the OSF net, facing 34 shots.

07 octobre 2008: Defaite... Young Guns IBK: 4 vs Argons 18: 9

Quebec Floorball Association News(english only):
The cool crisp air of October usually means one thing in Montreal. No, not the elections or politics. That would be a lot of 'hot' air. Actually, it means floorball at Cegep St. Laurent! With a "special" visitor from Toronto in attendance, Intermediate Division rivals Argon-18 and Young Guns met in the first match of the evening. The pregame pundits were predicting a blowout for Argon-18, seeing that two high-scoring players in Simon Leblanc and J.P. Binette were in the lineup and YG's top defenseman, Lauri Leppanen was out with an injury. The game started well for Argon-18, with J.P. Heon scoring on the power-play but YG held their own after that, using their quick outlet passes to keep Argon guessing. Then the Leblanc show took over, setting up Binette and Andrew Brown for highlight-reel goals. The Gunners closed out the first-period scoring, with Vinny Meslage scoring to keep the game close 3-1. Both teams traded early second-period goals but with Seb Meslage scoring at the 11-minute mark to make it 4-3, things really began to heat up. However, lack of discipline on defense by the Young Punks allowed Argon-18 to re-establish control of the game, rattling-off three goals to take a 7-3 lead. From there, the Bikers (Argon-18 is a high-end competition bicycle brand, for those who didn't know. I have a few myself;) cruised to 9-4 win. Binette (3G,1A), Heon (3G,1A), and Leblanc (1G,3A) all had four points and Guoruey Wong stopped 18 of 22 shots for Argon-18. The Meslage Bros., Vincenzo (1G,2A) and Sebastien (2G) led Young Guns, who had a decent game despite their inexperienced defense and goal-tending.
