Aerin grew up in a backwater village in the
southeast, situated in a lush and hot forest. He
spent much of his use as most did in his village;
playing in the trees and gathering food for their
families. He was always a nimble and durable boy,
always taking the quickest but most dangerous routes
through the trees, often earning him falls that may
have killed the others of his age.
By the time he was twelve, he was slightly taller and
much quicker than any of the other children in his
village. He won foot races and his natural quickness
allowed him to best those who had training in combat
through sheer athletics. He was training to be a
blacksmith, to craft things in the way of Fire.
However, his peaceful village life was about to come
to an abrupt end. It was during one exceptionally hot
season of fire that his entire life was changed”K
He had been out getting water at a nearby river, with
some of his friends. The river was nearly dry, as
were most of the trees, and there was a great risk of
fire this year from the dry weather. It was for this
reason that as soon as they saw smoke rising above
the trees, all of the children ran back towards the
village to see what was happening. They arrived to
the horrific scene of their homes in flame, the heat
not even allowing them to come close to the village
entrance. They saw burning bodies, most dead, some
clinging for life and reaching out for their help.
They were so scared that they just stood there in
ear. They ran away, heading northwest towards the
cooler and more moist wooded areas.
As the band of children traveled, they realized how
hard it was to survive without the direction of their
parents”K they only knew how to find food and water
within their own village, they couldn”¦t find any that
was good enough to eat on the road other than a few
berries and the occasional spring. Half dead and
still marching forward, they were found by a caravan
traveling through the area, and picked up by one of
the bodyguards.
This man was working as a caravan guard to earn the
experience in combat that he wanted, to test out his
martial arts style. During their travel with the
caravan, the man saw Aerin”¦s natural tendencies and
took him as a pupil. The man made his name known to
Aerin, calling himself Moonstrike, and Aerin soon
came to adopt the man”¦s name as a family name, for he
hadn”¦t had one in his village”¦s customs. The man
taught Aerin his martial art during their travels,
and by the time they arrived at the port that the
caravan was leaving to the Blessed Isle from, Aerin
was proving a very dedicated student. The other
children worked with Aerin as well, learning with
him, and Moonstrike took them to a nearby city, where
they trained on the outskirts in his martial arts
style for two years. By this time, Aerin and most of
the others were 14, and Aerin was definitely the most
proficient of the group.
Moonstrike put Aerin and the others through many
tests, and some who failed would leave the training
to go make work for themselves in other ways. They
made lives for themselves in the ways they had
learned in their village, and Aerin continued to
learn how to craft. Eventually, by the age of 16,
Moonstrike sent Aerin into the world to make a name
for himself, to earn his own resources and test his
skills against those worthy. Aerin took the
challenge, leaving his remaining village-mates
behind, and heading to make a life for himself, and
to prove his martial capabilities.
It has been two years, and Aerin has achieved wealth
and to a certain degree fame. He now seeks to become
the greatest martial artist in the land.
